billie hummed as she carefully brushed and gathered her jet-black hair into pigtail braids. she sighed into the humid california breeze that slipped into her bathroom from the window. she was preparing herself for another one of her summer odd jobs. the plan was to not have to ask anyone for money under any circumstances, so she decided to start saving up to last her until winter break when she could fly back to her parents. she liked to be self-sufficient, though she didn't necessarily need to be; her family was comfortable enough to pay for whatever she asked for.
her job for june was to work in some old woman's garden. she assumed she'd be cutting weeds and watering the plants that the lady could no longer reach—easy stuff. she had the impression that people in southern california didn't bother to garden much. and even if they did, it's not like she couldn't learn to plant a seed or two. she watched her mother garden when she was younger and it looked relatively easy, so she assumed she could take this job with no experience.
billie looked at her phone and noticed she was going to be late for her uber if she didn't walk out within a second, so she swiftly grabbed her tote bag and power walked outside to a small silver car.

after about twenty minutes, billie's ride came to a stop and she found herself in front of a stunning, well-aged villa that left her speechless. she thanked her driver and tipped him well before he drove off. with each look at the home, she found an intricate detail that she adored.
after enough marveling, she made her way to the front door and knocked rhythmically. still eager to take in the scenery around her, she looked back at the water fountain in the middle of the long driveway, noticing its marble details. just seconds later, she heard the door open.
"i hope you're not just staring into space," a sultry voice spoke. billie turned around so quickly that she stumbled and almost lost her balance completely. when she planted her feet, she finally focused on the figure in front of her; a stunning, middle-aged woman with tawny-colored skin. billie couldn't help but notice her wide hips and cleavage exposed by her long, wine-colored bodycon dress. she held a dripping nectarine to her soft, plump lips and took a bite as she used her honey eyes to stare at billie while waiting for an answer.
"i'm...sorry," billie muttered. the woman was obviously nothing like she imagined. "you're sydney?"
"correct, and you are...?"
billie continued to stare at her mouth, how her tongue ran over her teeth and her lips. then her hands, how one of them was covered in nectarine juice and the other was perfectly placed on her hip. she was in complete awe of the godly beauty in front of her.
"hellooo?" sydney sang, appalled at how spaced out the girl in front of her looked.
billie finally snapped out of it and replied awkwardly, "bil. billie. o'connell." she cleared her throat and glanced down at her shoes while pulling up the straps of her overalls and white tank top.
"good to know. come in," sydney ordered, turning around and stepping back into her home. billie followed her like a lost puppy, closing the door behind her while also admiring the home's interior as much as she did with the exterior. "water?" sydney offered.
"sure," billie accepted. she refrained from staring at the goddess in front of her.
"sparkling? flat?"
