The paint thickness measuring instruments are also called film thickness gauge, coating thickness gauge or paint film thickness gauge. Different thickness gauge meters are used with different principles, and the accuracy of measurement is also different. Commonly instrument used to measure paint thickness generally support magnetic thickness measurement and eddy current thickness measurement. Relatively speaking, the magnetic method has higher measurement accuracy, but this method also has certain limitations.

The eddy current method can measure the thickness of all insulating coatings sprayed on non-magnetic metal substrates (such as aluminum, copper, brass and stainless steel).

Therefore, the common eddy current coating thickness measurement functions are different, by which they can be divided into iron-based coating thickness instruments, aluminum-based coating thickness instruments, and dual-purpose coating thickness instruments. Then, according to the form of the probe, they can be divided into one-piece type and split type.
