Severus

"What made you drawn to the book," I paused, "The Assassian's Apprentice?" I asked as I took another sip of fire whiskey.

"I like how the book takes a series of twists and turns because you never know where your life will end up. Interestingly, it comes from the memory of Fitz from when he was young. He's trying to find his place in the world that changes all around him," she paused, "I guess in a sort of sense I feel the same way. Trying to find my place in the wizarding world is different compared to someone that is in the wizarding world that is pure blood. Of course, I can't talk to animals but in a sense, they are trying to fit into their world."

She's not pure blood?

I was certain she was a pureblood. Almost all Slytherins are.

"You are still trying to find your place in the world?" I asked.

She nodded, "Not like I belong at Hogwarts right now," she paused, "I don't even get to teach on my own without being an assistant. You know that is why I came here because when I was at Ilvermorny, I was so below everyone else in the teaching world that I just wanted to be," she paused and shook her head, "you don't want to hear this. I am just rambling on," she closed her book and stood up, "I'm sorry."

I grabbed her wrist, "This might be the fire whiskey talking but I was very interested in your life. I didn't know you taught at an American school."

She scuffed and sat back down, "More like I was their coffee assistant."

I was still holding onto her wrist and she looked down. "Sorry," I said releasing her from my grip.

She shook her head, "No need to apologize, Severus."

Why does my body vibrate when she calls me by my first name? The way it rolls off her tongue just makes me want to put my tongue down her mouth.

I cleared my throat, "Aren't you glad you went to Hogwarts instead of Ilvermorny?"

"Most certainly," she said, "there were only a few people there that are from Cokeworth, England or Scotland for that matter."

"Cokeworth, England?" I asked.

She nodded, "I was born there, not raised but born there."

"I was born and raised there," I said.

Phoenix

"Oh really?" I smiled, this was probably the most engaging conversation I have ever had with this man.

"When did you leave Cokeworth, England?" He asked.

"When I was five," I paused, "we moved closer to Scotland after that."

"We as in your parents?" He asked.

This conversation was almost too engaging. I was getting nervous that this was all a trick and that he didn't care.

"Do you even care?" I asked.

"Yes," he said, "I've always cared," his silky voice traveled down my spine making me shiver.

"Are you cold?" He asked.

"No," my eyes went wide, that shiver wasn't just internal. I pinched the bridge of my nose and shook my head. "I don't understand how you can go from insulting someone to listening to them."

"Weren't you insulting me also?" He asked, "and here we are talking to each other."

"But I am only talking about myself," I paused, "tell me about yourself."

He shook his head, "but nobody wants to hear about that," he paused, "I'm not important."

"Piss off, Severus," I shook my head, "people do care."

"What people?" He spat.

"Me," I said.

"You are just saying that," he stood up from his seat and started to make his way out the door. I stood up from my stool and put my bag over my shoulder. "Severus, wait," I said as I tried to grab his arm.

We got into a small alleyway, "Severus, I want to know more about you,"  he stopped and turned around. He was inches away from me, "Why?"

"I want to get to know my coworker. I want to get to know my favorite professor from school. I know you probably don't realize it but some people care for you. I know that I," I was cut off by Severus getting closer and him bringing his thumb to my lips. I looked at Severus' eyes which were going back and forth from my lips to my eyes. I could smell his warm whiskey breath on my face. Severus smirked and gave me a small peck on the cheek. His lips were soft and warm. He pulled away and cleared his throat. I brought my hand up to my cheek still feeling the warmth from his lips. "What was that for?" I asked.

"Well for one I was hoping it would shut you up," he said, "as for my second reason," he stopped talking and his breath hitched. "What time is it?" He asked.

I looked at the time. It was ten minutes past the hour mark that we told our students.

I looked at Severus and laughed.

"Those poor kids are probably scared half to death," I smiled.

He chuckled, "I think I am rubbing off on you."

Probably. Most likely.

We got to the students who looked as worried as ever.

"Professors! We thought we lost you!"

Severus rolled his eyes, "get into the carriages time to go back." Severus and I ended up going into the same carriage as before, just us again.

I got in first and Severus followed. We both sat on the ground instead of the benches on the carriage. They were enclosed which made it nice because it was still bright outside.

"What was your second reason?" I blurted out.

"Hmm?" He said.

"You heard me," I said.

"I haven't had anyone say that they cared for me that much, and want to get to know me," he said as he brought his knees to his elbows.

"Your legs are so long," I said noticing how much room he takes up.

"Jealous?"

"Extremely," I smiled.

"You have long legs," he said as he looked me up and down, but if you weren't watching him you would've missed it. Blink of an eye, "you just have a short torso."

"You just long all over," I said. My eyes went wide as soon as I said it.

"No kidding," he chuckled.

Did I just say that out loud to my coworker? My former potions master?

I cleared my throat, "we should do this again," Severus said with a smile.

"You should do that more often."

"What?" He asked.

"Smile more," I said.

"Don't you dare tell people that I smile," he says.

"No, never," I said, "you have to keep up with the closed-off dark arts Professor."

"Precisely," he said.
