"Sun!" Hestia coughed crawling along the floor as thick black smoke and heated rubble blocked her path, "Sun-Mae!" the first year choked, pushing herself under a fallen stone pillar. Around her, she could hear the sounds of people dying. It echoed down the halls, screams of terror screams of pain, explosions, fire, brimstone, and death.
What were they doing? They shouldn't be here! They shouldn't be doing this! If Sun-Mae was alright and she prayed that she was alright, Hestia would have to think of a way to get them out of here fast.
"Heeesssttttiiiaaa! I-I'm over here!" She heard the sob in her best friend's voice, the raw pain that accompanied it, so Hestia crawled faster ignoring the stinging in her palms and knees as she made her way over the rubble and broken glass. The explosion had separated them, blocking off the hallway outside the first-floor bathroom. Hestia on one side and Sun-Mae on the other. Moving forward Hestia snatched at a flowing piece of silk caught on a bit of crumbled marble, the soft fabric unfortunately now stained with blood as her palms pulled on it to free it from where it was caught. She shoved it deep into her dust-covered robe pocket moving forward as she finally saw the other end of the hallway leading toward the great hall.
"Hestia? Hestia!" Sun's voice came through as a panicked scream as the witch finally pulled herself from the fallen debris, her eyes going wide as she took in the scene, her friend laying with her back against the wall, her long black hair haphazardly splayed in every direction as she bent over herself trying to move a large piece of stone off of her left foot, her friend's treasured wand broken in half nearby, but that wasn't the troubling part, it wasn't the part that made her stomach twist in anxiety and her breathing shakey it was the man coming towards him, his frame large his eyes filled with devilish delight. He had his wand trained on the trapped girl, a growing smile fixing on his face.
"Lambs for the slaughter I see," He laughed looking between the two, Hestia was quick to rise to her feet her sweaty palm clutching at her wand like a lifeline, it was the most important thing she owned, the peach tree and boggart skin 13-inch perfection. Its long and dainty form was artistically crafted to look like a branch from the tree itself.
"Wait! We're Slytherins!" she protested, it wasn't false, they were Slytherins, it just so happened that the school had made all first years Slytherins.
"Hmmh?" He asked with a raised brow and a curious tilt of his dark brown eyes. "What's your family's name lass, perhaps I can be understanding." He nodded waving her closer, her knees shaking as she did as he instructed putting herself between him and Sun. Her best friend was a half-blood, her father a Hufflepuff no less. Her right hand drifting down into the pocket of her robe she clutched at Sun-Mae's headscarf for comfort.
"Adler! I'm Hestia Adler, my parents are Patricia and Kallias Adler!" She explained quickly swallowing hard as she waited for his verdict.
"Cursebreaker, Kallias Adler?" he asked with a raised brow looking her over from top to bottom, his eyes scanning slowly a look of understanding crossing his features. Did he recognize her? Had she seen him before? She couldn't tell. "Hmmh, you look like your mother," he agreed with a short nod, his eyes roaming her body yet again.
"T-Thank you,"
"It's a pity your father is more of a coward than you," He said sadly shaking his head, snatching her roughly by the front of her robes and yanking her towards him her mary janes sliding across the floor as she dug at his hands.
"LET ME GO!" She screamed before kicking out hitting his calf with her foot hard as he brought her within reach, a large hand slapping her across the face, Sun-Mae let out a bellowing scream that drifted out the hallway and mingled with the chorus of those around the castle.
