The sun was setting slowly, an orange glaze set over the hill we were sitting on. It was so perfect. I smiled breathing in the sight of the trees, the ramp below us with the graffiti all over, and him. He smelled good sitting next to me, like pinecones and snow, his shoulder brushed mine. Even after a year and a half I still got goose bumps at the sight of him. He looked at the sun then he looked down next to him where I was sitting, his dried lips growing into a full grin at the sight of me. I gave him a small smile, I was still too shy. He chuckled putting his arm around me.
"Its beautiful" I breathed.
"You're beautiful" he said his eyes not leaving mine.
"Jack!" I squirmed under his grasp. "You're lying."
He shook his head no, leaning his forehead on mine. His left hand on my waist, his right hand cupping my cheek. I'll never get over his warm touch. Even in the winter when he's holding my hand. And in the summer after he's been holding a frozen cup for over an hour.
"I'm not." He stated simply. Leaning down and planting a small kiss on my lips. I smiled when I realized he is too. He kissed me again and again. My hands were limp at my side; he grabbed them putting them around his neck. I sighed pulling away. "Why do you always do that? Do you not want to kiss me?" he said playfully. Too full of himself for his own good.
"I do." I said, not so convincingly.
"Then show me." He said pouting. Now holding both my hands in his larger ones and pulling me to him.
I closed my eyes tightly and crashed my lips to his. Both my hands cupped his face. His hands went to my lower back, bringing me closer. I kissed him till I was out of breath.
"There" I said.
"And now you ruined it." He pouts. I laughed at his remark. "That's not funny!"
The sun had set now and my parents were probably going to kill me. I was two hours late. I'd probably just say that I wasn't looking at the time. I didn't realize I was late. I was just at a friends house, studying. Her mom dropped me off. No cross that, her dad. Just in case they saw Jack. He looks older than he is anyways, it's believable.
"Jack I'm late." I say looking at him. He looks over at his phone realizing the time.
"I am too." He says frowning. "Apparently my mom needs me home." With that he gets up brushing himself off and helps me up. He then takes my hand and we walk down the small hill together. He is careful to not let me slip down as he takes slow steps, my hands in his tight grip. After a while of walking through trees and twigs he abruptly stops. I'm about to ask why for the sudden change before he turns around grabbing my legs and wrapping them around his waist. My giggles and his roars spread through the hiking trails and the trees. He carries me through out the whole walk and then puts me down when we reach his car.
"You didn't have to do that," I laugh.
"A simple thank you would be enough." He says raising his eyebrows. "You're welcome." I roll my eyes.
"Thank you," I say.
He grabs me and kisses me again. "Sorry, I had to." He doesn't sound sorry. And almost everything he has said today is cheesy, but I don't care. "Do you remember that time you said 'when you love someone you can stare at them forever'?" I nod my head. "Well..." he says looking into my eyes. I stare back and I start to feel awkward. I look away. Its not that I don't love him. I think I do. But it was so random and I just can't get myself to say it. I decide to not say anything for now; I don't think it affected him.
We sit in his car and he holds out his hand for me to hold. I kiss his palm before closing it around my own. Im playing with his fingers when we get stuck in traffic. He's humming a tune I faintly remember.
"Hey," I say
"Hmm" he says staring ahead at the white Toyota in front of us.
"We are good together, right?"
"Yes" he laughs "I think so, why you don't?"
"Of course I do." I smile at him. "You just weren't saying anything that's all."
"You just talk too much." He says. "Don't worry so much will you? I will always be here for you, I promise" he smiles leaning in and kissing my forehead. "Always and Forever."
And I believe him.
