My name is Jothan (not Jonathan) Swallowe (and not Swallow as in the verb, but more like the bird, with an 'e' attached) – Jothan Swallowe – and I will be your narrator for the duration of these diary entries. These are the events recorded from my own life during my time at a private game reserve somewhere in the Limpopo Province of South Africa, hidden between the beautiful Waterberg mountains and surrounding farms. I do consider those months as probably the best time of my life, and I would do anything to go back.

I was in my late twenties during this time, insecure and lacked knowledge about anything nature related. I learned quite a lot during those eight months. It was the time that I found myself again as a person after years of living in a vacuum, which led me to the path I walk today. Not that I am where I dream to be, but I would not have been here writing had it not been for those days. I see that as my 'reset' period.

Rewriting my diary entries make me realise the amateur writer I was – and I still learn to write today – so please forgive my lack of words and descriptions from back then. I did however improve my wording, grammar and sentence structures to give more context and make it easier to read, but I did my best to retain the original entries. I also added minor details where possible to bring bits of life to the entries.

I have changed all the names of the people in my diary to protect their real identities.
