I just woke up from a nightmare. This is the 5th time I had that dream. In my nightmare, I was in the hunger games and got killed brutally. It's another sign. My mom and I have been seeing a lot of bad luck signs since last year. We both had that dream a couple of times at the same time so my mom tried "training" me. It's not really like training but let's call it that.

My mama helped me gain more strength and taught me how to be more aware of my surroundings. She taught me how to climb trees and a lot of survival tips. She's friends with the victor of our district, Josh Crowley. So that was an advantage. If I got reaped, which is terrifying, I would be ready. I looked out my window and saw the sun rising. The reaping is in 4 days and everyone is afraid.

I did my morning routine and went to my mom who was in the kitchen. "Good morning sweetheart," mama said before kissing my forehead. "Good morning ma, how long are you going to be out in work? I want to help after school ends," I said smiling to her as I put my shoes on. "I will be done with work around sunset so make sure to come quick because peacekeepers are telling us to hurry up our work," my mom says sighing. I gave her a small nod and we went outside.

I went to school and met up with my friend, Ruby Lee. "Hi Ruby! How are you?" I say hugging her. "I'm good and how are you Christina?" She responded. "I'm doing fine, I'm going to work with my mom when school ends what are you going to do?" I asked. "I'm going to clean all the meat to help my family get out faster," she says. I nodded and went to class with her and saw Rose. I smiled and waved at her and she did the same. We used to be friends but her parents didn't want us to be friends because we weren't on the same "level."

° After school°

I ran to the where all the animals were getting butchered and smiled at people as a greeting. Which is awkward but still do it for politeness. I hugged my mom and helped her with everything. I wanted to complain about how I hated the rich kids in school but decided not to. Those stupid peacekeepers always gave me warnings whenever I got a bit too loud.

I'm surprised that I'm the shy quiet kid in school but with my mom I'm not. We finished once the sunset started to happen. "Looks how pretty it is mamá!" I exclaimed to my mom. My mom looked at the sunset and nodded with a big smile. "You still get excited over this at the age of 14, Alvarez?" stated mamá as she looked at me funny. I giggled and responded, "Of course I do! I mean who wouldn't take advantage of the sunsets that look like a dream?"

As we walked home we saw Josh Crowley walking alone. "Hey! You doing good?" my mom questioned. Crowley didn't walk around here much at sunsets so it was weird, but whenever he did, it was something. He would ask for some tea and would ask what's the best place to watch the sunrise, sunsets, and all of that. Josh smiled and responded, "Hi, I'm doing fine and you guys?" "We are doing well. We just came back from work, tell us what tea you would like?" my mom replied.

I zoned out for a while as they spoke about teas and how expensive they are getting. As they were talking I realized that we had tea because of Crowley. Since he had many riches and could buy many things, he is the one who probably gives us the tea stuff. I would always see him buy tea but never make it himself. My mamá and I can't afford tea.

"I can't believe it. I'm going to have to be a mentor and go to the capitol again! And it's going to happen less than 4 days!" He stated angrily. Crowley tried to remain calm by breathing in deeply after almost yelling. My mom gave him a comforting look and said, "The atmosphere here has been stiff, do you think this year's hunger game is going to be weird?" my mom questioned suddenly.

"Kids at my school have been getting distant with each other. They say they feel like somebody they know are going to get reaped and they don't want to cry about it or something like that. So it's going to be weird this school year," I responded as I went to get an apple. I bit into the washed apple as Josh replied, "I agree. This year's game is going to be different. I don't know how big of a difference but I think it would be somewhat noticeable."

°3 days until the reaping°

I woke up sweaty. "No! I keep having that stupid nightmare. Stop it!" I whispered to myself. I went to my mom's bed and laid down next to her. She woke up and whispered, "You got the nightmare again didn't you?" I nodded and went back to sleep with her.

I woke up to her gone. Mom's probably put in work early. The sun was starting to rise. "Gosh! How did I wake up this early?" I said. I got up and hurried to do my morning routine and run to school. "Ruby, what the hell! You didn't give me back my baby yesterday. After work, I'm coming with you to your house. I want seashell with me today!" I yelled at Ruby when I saw her.

She was talking with Jack Prescott. "Should I go...?" Jack asked awkwardly. "No no. Just wait for a while and the conversation will be back," Ruby said. I hit the back of the head and she stated, "Ow! No hello's or how are you's? Damn, you suck." I flipped her off and said, "You better give seashell to me tonight!" Ruby rolled her eyes and continued her conversation.

I went to find Amber Johnson and Jay Johnson/JJ. "What's up?" JJ said when he saw me making Amber turn around. "Nothing much, how about you guys?" I say while hugging Amber. "The same as always. Anyways give me a hug! You haven't spoken to us for 3 days. It's been depressing without you," Jay exclaimed. I laughed at him and gave him a hug.

° Moonrise°

"Mamá, can we go to Ruby's house really quick? She has my baby," I told my mom. "Okay fine. Wait, why do you guys always share Seashell?" My mom questioned. "Because of how late we come back to home and of course Seashell needs attention. So whoever has more free time will take care of her," I explained to my mom.

We arrived at Ruby's home and knocked on her door. Ruby opened the door while holding a chihuahua. She rolled her eyes and said, "You didn't forget about Seashell so you came here right? Here she is. I have to go sorry. Byee take care!" She shut the door right after giving me Seashell.

"Why is she weird today?" My mom said once we arrived home. "I don't know but my baby is here," I replied. I smiled at Seashell and played with her.
