Chapter 7 - The white Spirit
"Geminie, we can't keep her here at the temple. The moonstone is proof enough that she is indeed the lost Princess" Muffled voices reach my ears, bringing me out of the darkness.
"What do you mean? I grew up with Crysta." Matrix exclaims, he seems confused.
"What Amberle means is that I am the daughter of the Current Moon Goddess. Crystalline is the daughter of the first Moon Goddess." I wish for those speaking to be silent. The pain is just too much to bear and being woken when I should be healing is not a nice feeling.
"Shit, why is it glowing?" Someone exclaims. Glowing? What's glowing?
"She is being summoned by some one. My stone glows when one of the Goddesses want to talk to ..."
...
A soft breeze caresses my skin, the scent of moon flowers reaching my nose and bringing me from the darkness that consumes me.
"I am happy to see you are awake." A man's voice from my right calls out, forcing me to jump in fright and turn. Standing on a hill, a tall six-foot-five male with white hair stares down at the forest before us, before he turns to me with a warm smile. Confused, I climb to my feet, weary of the man dressed in an outfit I can only describe as antique, something someone from the medieval period would wear.
"Who are you?" I ask, backing away and putting some distance between the man and I.
"I go by many names." He answers mysteriously, a hint of a smirk now on his lips. A pit of unease settles in my stomach, his smirk reminding me too much of Alexander's. But that's where the physical traits end.
"Some call me the first one, some the white spirit, others the true Alpha King. But you, little Crystalline, would have called me father if times had been different." Shocked, I back away unable to comprehend what this man just said. Father... as in my biological father. But that's not true. How could a man who claims to be the true Alpha King be my father when he clearly isn't from the twenty-first century.
"I know this is hard to hear-"
"You think?" I scoff, cutting this man off while I try to comprehend his statement.
"-But the truth is I am your biological father, and you Crystalline are the lost princess." I trip over a rock in my haste to back away, the shock of his statement causing me to lose focus of my surroundings. I brace for the impact of my body hitting the dirt, but instead I find myself cradled in a warm embrace. The scent of moon flowers once again reaches me, mixed with the scent of the river I always found myself sitting by. It calms me, relaxing my mind from the chaotic state this wolf's words created.
"Careful hun. This may be the dream scape but you can still injure yourself." His voice is soft, carrying a tone that I have only heard other pups received – the tone of a loving father.
"How...I was raised by Queen Clarice and King Alexander. How can I be the lost Princess?" I ask, tears filling my eyes and falling down my cheek as I question the man with disbelief.
"You know the legend of how I became a wolf right?" He asks and I nod.
"You were the leader of a wolf pack, a regular wolf pack, before cities and towns were made. You roamed the forest with you pack, coming and going from small tribes like a spirit on the wind until one day you laid your eyes on a young girl that caught your attention. For years, you would be her shadow. Protecting her from kidnappings, vicious animals and other dangers." I begin, looking towards the forest and seeing a faint image of a building... of the Palace I grew up in. But it seems different. Gone are the ivy that climbs the wall facing the north. The electric lighting that had been placed in at the turn of the century to modernize the place. The crumbling tower that used to house a powerful witch is now brand new, as if untouched by the elements.
"Then one day, creatures enslaved by the sun that we now know as vampires conspired with rogue wolves to kill the humans that continued to grow and take the territory. Your pack, catching wind of this rushed to the village where the now young maiden lived only to be too late. Rogues and vampires had slaughtered and bled dry every one there or taken and turned those they wanted as mates into vampires themselves. You let out a lone, heart breaking howl. Your heart broken from losing the one you wanted as a mate. The maiden watched from the dream scape with the other Gods and Goddesses, tears streaming down her face when Goddess Morai gave the maiden two options. Become a Goddess herself and live with the wolf that loves her or continue down the path death to be reincarnated." I continue, catching a smile on Spirit's face as he too joins me in looking over at the Palace.
"Luna became the first Moon Goddess, making an agreement to take the mantel five hundred years after learning to use her powers. During my howl I felt my body shift and soon found myself laying on the cold hard floor as a human. Could you imagine my surprise when my pack also shifted, their mates also werewolves." He chuckles out, a smile playing on my lips. I can picture the confusion now, the first werewolves feeling the pain of the shift but in reverse. How their wolf body would have formed and changed into a human one. The scene of them trying to walk on two legs must have been comical as well.
"I can imagine a few questioning how it happened and wonder who caused this magic." I answer, nudging his shoulder with mine playfully. Something in me seems to accept this wolf as he has not shown any hostility towards me. Even if I am still trying to figure out his motives.
"I still felt my broken heart while my pack and their mates felt a stronger love with each other. A tingle and electrifying shock we call the mate bond. And then I smelt it, her scent of moon flowers. The full moon shone down on where I stood and as if made of moon dust, your mother appeared. As you know, we married and built our kingdom, then had your brother and your twin sister." A stabbing pain in my heart at the mention of the mate bond has me bending forward, gasping for breath and tears in my eyes. I thought this man mentioned it being the dream scape, how could I feel the pain of rejection so strongly here.
"It's okay, just breath through the pain." With the scent of the river and moon flowers and the feel of gentle arms wrapping around me, I lean into my father's embrace the feeling of love easing the feeling of rejection.
"This pain, it is real and no matter where your soul is, you will feel it. There is a reason behind it but unfortunately, I am sworn to secrecy from Goddess Morai." I nod at his answer, confused by his words but accepting that if the Goddess of Destiny has her hand in this, I just have to accept it and move on.
"Why did I not grow up with you, mother and my siblings." I ask, clinging to my father and letting the pain ebb away. Some one made me miss the chance of growing up with love.
"Your brother. His name has changed over the centuries from Drathnid, to the current name Lupus. But thankfully the community of your current era knows him as his true name, Prince Coro. I knew he was jealous when you and your twin Selene were born. He bonded with Selene, always wanting to be a big brother to her. It kept us from being suspicious of him even if Witch Cassandra and the Maids told us other wise. In the shadows he kept tormenting you until one day you went missing." My father answers, a deep sigh ending his words as he caresses my face, his sad eyes looking over my features.
"No one suspected him as he was taking care of Selene. For years we searched until we gave up hope. Luna had to train Selene as the next Moon Goddess and I had to train Coro as the next king. But something kept me from giving him the crown even after he found his mate and had pups of his own" Hearing the names of my brother, I frown thinking of history class and the war caused by Alpha Drathnid. If I am correct, he is the one that nearly killed off all witches. Lupus is a recent name, one that has been reported as the Rogue King by the council. A man that has kidnaped, tortured and raped many wolves for many years. But Prince Coro is one I learned about with my tutor. He is the ancestor to Alexander, the one I thought was my ancestor as well. It turns out I was wrong.
"The day I decided to give him the crown was the day before your mother was to ascend as the Moon Goddess. Luckily, or unluckily depending on the perspective, Goddess Morai came barging through the doors, anger radiating off of her small frame with Witch Cassandra and many other trailing behind. There were stacks of books and the truth of your kidnapping mixed with the deeds Coro committed was revealed. A fight ensued and he escaped, killing his mate and the unborn pup as a way to prevent us from using them as leverage to capture him. Thankfully, his ten year old daughter was saved by Cassandra casting a protection barrier around her and we were able to keep her safe. She created the current line of royals that now rule." A tear slips down his face, the memory of loosing me and the betrayal of his son must be too hard to deal with. I stay silent, allowing my father time to sort out his emotions that still seem to have a strong hold over him even after all these centuries later. I can not even begin to imagine how he feels.
"What did Coro have planed for me?" I ask after some time has passed and I feel that my father has stabilized. Although I am unsure if I want to know the answer or not, I have to know in order to live as a rogue for the time being.
"He made a pact with a Witch, a very dark Witch. You were supposed to be kidnapped then killed so that he would have no contest for the thrown. But Morai intervened and the carriage the Witch and you were in was hit with an accident. Moon Flowers swallowed you, keeping you in a stasis if you would. It wasn't until eighteen years ago did the moon flowers let you free." A soft breeze blows past us, the scenery shifting as if someone pressed fast forward on the screen. I watched as a small town was formed, as houses and shops and farms were created. I watch the Palace age over time, the white brick slowly becoming discoloured with the elements. One thing that never changed is the moon flower meadow that we sat in. Then things stopped and my father and I remained the only ones on the hill looking at a familiar pack lands that I grew up with. I watch a familiar face walking along the river in a flowing gown, her tear stained face one I both wished to see and never see again. The late Queen Clarice, the woman that raised me, sat in the middle of the moon flower meadow. I take a step forward, wanting to rush to her, but a hand stops me.
"We can't interact with her. This is the memory of the moon flowers, I'm sorry." Father whispers and I nod, tears threatening to spill once more. We watched in silence until the sounds of crying could be heard and the late Queen jumps, turning towards the sound until the scene changes and she and the crying are gone.
"When the late Alpha Queen mated the current Alpha King it turned out she was barren. She kept it to herself knowing that Alexander would kill her in order to find a mate that will give him an heir. One day she stumbled upon the moon flower meadow - One neither your mother nor I had found - and found you still a new born. It was perfect timing because Alexander was going to war with the vampires and would be gone for years. She told him the day he left that she was pregnant and knowing you were safe, she left you in the safety of the moon flowers. For the next few months she was attended to by her maids, the very same ones that raised you and sworn to secrecy of your origin. You still were kept as a newborn and only cried twice. The first time she stumbled upon the meadow, and the second time when she picked you up and took you home. No one noticed the moon stone had fallen or was left in the moon flower meadow until you found it and put it on. That must have been a shock to Clarice." I smile, thinking back to the day she watched me find the necklace I treasure, her begging me to not go near the flowers with fear but something called to me in the sea of white and green. I always wondered why she was so terrified of me entering the moon flower meadow but knowing now that she found me there made sense. She probably thought I would disappear just as fast as I had appeared to her.
"She was so mad with me. But at the same time I think she had a feeling of who I truly am." I agree, turning away from the scenery behind me and looking to my father. Everything he has shown me proves I am his daughter and my instinct tells me to trust him. So with hope that this man will not abuse me the way Alexander had, I place my trust in him.
"So what do I do now?" I ask. A flame is ignited in me and revenge is what I wanted. Revenge towards my brother who took me away from our family. Revenge for my mother, for Queen Clarice, against Alexander for how he treated Clarice and I. and Revenge against Narin for rejecting me and choosing Alexander.
"You train, build a pack of your own and take back the Royal Pack as the true heir. I will ask Luna and Selene to contact Geminie as she can stay in the dream scape longer but our time is up. Become strong my daughter..."
