24 - Back On The Path

"I'm gonna miss you two." You frown, hugging Cyno and Tighnari.

The fox gives you a tight squeeze and says, "We'll see each other soon."

You pull away and Cyno grabs your shoulder. "Hey, safe travels, alright?"

"Yes," You smile sadly, waving them goodbye as you and Yurushi walk out of the hotel. "Bye, guys!"

"It's see you soon!" Tighnari shouts from the open doors.

Very soon, hopefully. You adjust your bag on your back and grin at the man next to you, who looks really pissed.

"What's wrong?" You sigh.

"Nothing." He says.

"You look pissed."

"That's my neutral expression."

You roll your eyes. "It wouldn't kill you to look happy walking beside me."

"Okay!" Yurushi exclaims, then smiles widely. "This better?" When you start to laugh, he drops the happy look.

"You're so cute." You chuckle, squeezing his cheeks.

He swats your hands away and says, "Where to, weirdo? Don't say the desert. I'm not sleeping with a water fountain."

"Oh, please," You scoff as you two approach Katheryne. "I'll figure it out after seeing if we got a letter back from Aesha."

Katheryne sends you a smile. "Hello, (Y/n)."

"Hi, Katheryne. Do I have any letters?"

She nods, reaching behind the counter. "In fact, you do. From a woman named Aesha."

You grin widely, snatching the envelope out of her hand. "Thanks! Bye!"

Tugging Yurushi along, you both take a seat at a table outside of Lambad's Tavern.

Ripping the letter open, you begin reading it out loud.

"Dear (Y/n) and Yurushi, that is quite unfortunate to hear. I miss you two dearly, and business has been up and down since you two left. Bashir was having a hard time working on his own, so I had to hire two new people. They're great, but I find myself missing you guys a lot. Please, whenever you can, come back. I don't know what's wrong, but since you left out details, I'm assuming it's a private matter, and I won't pry into it. Love you lots, Aesha."

Your throat tightens up as you fold the letter away.

"Wow," Yurushi mumbles, looking into your eyes. "You okay?"

"Fine," You take a deep breath and put the letter in your bag. "Obviously, we can't go back. This just sucks."

"I'll blast Tartaglia and his Fatui followers to nothing, if you want." Yurushi says, standing up.

You chuckle, following him down the street. "I'd advise you not to. I rather not have those scumbags have your face on a wanted sign."

"Yeah," He sighs, shrugging. "I don't want to erase myself twice."

"That'd suck, on my end," You grin, nudging his arm. "It'd take another song to remember you."

"And dance. Hey, did you like my moves? I think I was amazing." Yurushi smirks.

You laugh. "You were quite majestic. Like a bird?"

"A bird?" His mouth drops open. "Really?!"

Curling your arm around his neck, you send him an amused grin and say, "I'm only kidding. You were very mesmerizing."
