I went straight into my room expecting to find Lyda who is probably texting with her boyfriend while messing my bed except I didn't see her.
I was feeling ecstatic when I was running down the stairs on the way to the kitchen to ask my mom where Lyda could be.
"Mom, where's Lyda?" I asked her giddily when I found her pouring three cloves of garlic into a bowl as I walk around the counter near the stove only to see a whole piece chicken being cooked to soften. Yes! My favorite!
"Why honey, did you miss her already? I assume you decided to open up and you're all close now after all that laughing and giggling I heard last night." I swear I would be choking my throat out right now if I was drinking something at the moment.
What mom said was true, but what am I supposed to do? We were sharing my room and I thought having her as a company wasn't so bad after all. Her outdated way of speaking was really funny and I couldn't stop laughing. But I still don't like her. No way no.
"Mom, it's not just me, don't you find it funny too? I mean the way she talks? It sounds like she's speaking in a different accent."
My mom just shook her head, a sign I immediately understood, a sign telling me not to pick on her accent. She went to the refrigirator and got out some onions and ginger.
"Actually, I got Lyda to get some of the books we're not going to use anymore and made her donate it to the school downtown which is soon to be opening." She said while she's washing the onions in the sink. "I thought if she's going to live with us for free, might as well make her do the errands for us."
My eyes widened in horror when she pulled out a knife and started to slice the onions and chopping it into chunks in the process.
"Okay, I'm going upstairs mom. I'm going to do my homework." I said while I hurriedly walk away from the kitchen.
"Don't forget to come down for dinner honey!" She shouted back.
After closing the door behind me, I plop down into the bed and suddenly felt bored to do my homework. It's still early and I know I can't concentrate. Today was exhausting but I'm still glad cause it's Friday, and we all know it means I don't have to go to school for two days. I thought my head would burst open during my Calculus class. So I thought about the thing, or the one rather, that's been distracting me as I stare at the ceiling of my room.
Jungkook. I can't stop thinking about him since we've met the other day.
When I came out from the door, Jungkook was right; there are a lot of customers and fortunately nobody, like some worker or something noticed me. I looked up from their lit up menu on the counter and saw Coffeelicious written in bold at the top. So that's the name of this coffee shop. I didn't saw it when Jungkook pulled me here.
I picked up the phone call right after I took my first step towards the main exit. I tried my best to sound cool and calm. I hope mom would've forgetten all about it.
"Hey mom. What's up?"
I can hear some shuffling sound from the other line, then mom spoke.
"Oh--Kiera, where have you been? I told you to come home early today, didn't I?"
Shoot! There it is.
"I'm so sorry mom, I kind of bumped into an old friend on my way home and you know, we did some catching up & I totally forgot about the time."
An old friend? Really Kiera? You don't have any old friends, you idiot!
I pushed open the door and I felt the cold wind embrace my whole body when I came out. It was really warm inside compared here.
