Endless Sea

It's so gloomy today. I sat at the edge of a coastline, my vision filled with the vast sea and gray sky. The sea once in a while makes waves to only crash down to make white foam. Wind softly fluttered my hair as I sat there mindlessly, thinking? Nope, not a single thought. Is this really going to be the rest of my life?

Iberia was terrible. It had little to no job opportunity for people like me and it was always on guard for danger. If I remember correctly, the only job that was available was an Inquisitor for hunting seaborn. Like hell I was going to do that. My arts assimilation is terrible, and I have no combat skills at all, and I was only human after all.

The waves crashed down again. My life was normal, I was raised normally, went to school, made friends and all other basic stuff. Why were there no place for me in this country?, why did the seaborn even target Iberia in the first place? Right, we were near a sea and... they're SEA-born. Wow, I'm not smart.

I let out a big sigh, pushing the waves back far away... kidding. Another sigh, really? I stood up and headed back to the city. It was not fun watching the sea for the umpteenth time. Even in the city, there wasn't much option for entertainment anyway. I wanted to grab a coffee using some money I have.

The waves crashed for the third time, but there was no wind blowing. Glancing back, I saw the sea... yeah just the sea and the sky too I guess. Oh well, no point in wondering about things I have little interest in, so I pressed on to my destination. The sand beneath my feet seeped into my shoes, and I just cleaned them too.

Arriving back in the city, it was the same as ever. Not many dared to step outside since they are all fearing of the seaborn. I'm used to seeing them I guess. When the seaborn first appeared here, I was just like them. Scared, biting my nails, waiting for something to save us. But as time progressed, I just became used to them. They were disgusting, and they were able to wipe out the population with little effort. Nevertheless, what could I do about it? Probably pray or something.

Anyway, I arrived at the coffee shop. It was painted white like all the other buildings here, made from a material that could hold its own from a tsunami. Entering the shop, I see the man behind the counter staring into nothing before I caught his attention.

"Ah Y/N, the usual?"

"Yeah," the man went to work making my coffee, he knows me because I frequently went here and was a regular. Though, I don't know his name. We would usually talk together and that's where he got my name from. I didn't really ask for his name, I just like to refer him as 'Old Man' and he went along with it. I took a seat near the Old Man as usual.

Something caught my eye; it was a girl with white hair and a large hat.

"Who's that?" I quietly asked the old man, gesturing over to the girl.

"Her? She's new here, so I wouldn't know," It wasn't that uncommon seeing new customers here, but it wasn't common either. The people who would frequent here were broken men, torn by a losing lost one or having no hope for themselves, like myself.

Looks like we've been staring for a while as I locked eyes with her scarlet pupils drilling holes into me. I awkwardly turned my head like nothing happened, smooth one me. The Old Man almost laughed himself off with expression he was plastering on his face, trying to hold that ha-ha. I lowered my head in shame.

"This is why you get no girls."

"Shut up."

I would have liked to make a joke about how his wife is dead, but I don't think it would end well. It was a first in a while I have seen this Old Man smile, and I don't think I want to ruin this rare moment. Thinking about this made me smile a little, forgetting that absolutely embarrassing encounter. Even when humans were in desperation, they were still able to find entertainment and joy.
