What if Firestar had never joined ThunderClan? What if he would've stayed as a kittypet? What if he had never met Graypaw in the forest? Tired of all these questions? Well welcome to Warriors: What ifs? Today we'll be finding out how Firestar's life would be if he was still a kittypet.

Rusty sat on the railing of his housefolk's nest. He stared out at the forest and remembered how he had once wanted to go out there and see what it was like. He was so glad his friend Smudge had helped him change his mind. He didn't want to be out there with those wild cats.
Rusty licked his paw and swiped it over his ears. "Heya, Rusty!" A black and white tom mewed, scrambling over a fence and trotting over to Rusty. "Hey, Smudge!" Rusty greeted his friend. "Not thinking of going out into the forest, are ya?" Smudge asked playfully, scrambling up the rail to sit beside Rusty.
"No way!" The handsome ginger tom snorted. "I would never want to go out there!" Smudge let out a chuckle. "Well that's a relief," Smudge purred. "You wanna come over to my garden? My housefolk got this new thing, it's a stick with a feather on it. They like to wave around and watch me try to catch it. It's pretty fun," Smudge purred.
"Sure," Rusty mewed, jumping down from the railing and following Smudge over to his garden. Smudge trotted up to his housefolk's nest and pushed through the small flappy thing that covered a hole in the wall. A few heartbeats later Smudge came trotting through it, carrying a stick that had a yellow feather attached to it. His twoleg followed him out and made a noise.
The twoleg gently took the stick from Smudge and began waving it around in front of Smudge and Rusty. Rusty batted at the feather when it landed in front of him. What a strange thing for a twoleg to do. Rusty pounced on the feather and the twoleg yanked it away from him. The twoleg waved the stick back and forth in front of the two cats for a little longer before petting both toms and going back inside the nest.
"I told you it was fun!" Smudge mewed, staring after his housefolk. "I suppose it must be close to food time, I'll see ya later Rusty!" Smudge caked as he trotted into the nest. Rusty twitched his ears and headed back to his own nest.
After he ate he headed back outside and sat on the fence that separated his garden from the forest. He stared out at it and wondered what it would be like to be a wild cat. Rusty shook his head, he was perfectly fine with being taken care by his housefolk. But Rusty wanted to taste a mouse, he wanted to know what it was like.
Rusty leaped down from the fence and padded out into the forest. He didn't dare go too far in, he didn't want to lose sight of his garden, or run into any wild cats. He padded through the forest and stopped. A mouse stood a little ways in front of him. He raced towards the mouse and it darted toward a hole. Rusty leaped forward and barely missed the mouse as it disappeared into the hole.
He looked up. Where was he? Rusty glanced around the forest. A growl sounded behind him and he twisted around and saw a dark brown tabby stalking towards him. "What's a kittypet like you doing in the forest," he sneered. Rusty backed away, his fur spiked in terror. This must be one of the wild cats! "I-I only wanted to taste a mouse," Rusty stuttered. "A kittypet wanting to taste a mouse?" The tabby snorted. "Don't you know better than to steal from the clans?" The tabby growled.
Rusty twitched his ears. "The clans?" He echoed. The tabby tom rolled his eyes. "What do you care about the clans? We're just fully trained warriors that could easily kill you," the wild cat hissed. Rusty's heart stared to pound as the tom padded closer. "In fact, I could kill you right now," he hissed, unsheathing his claws. Rusty whipped around and raced back the way he had come, he heard paws pounding after him and he tried to run faster, but when he glanced behind him the tabby was only a tail-length away.
Rusty let out a yowl of alarm and peered through the trees. He spotted his garden and headed towards it. Suddenly, the tabby bowled him over. He raked his claws through Rusty's pelt and he let out a screech. Rusty thrashed beneath him, licking at his belly. Rusty heard paw steps in the forest and the tabby quickly jumped off him and glared at him as he raced to his garden and scrambled over the fence.
Reliefs washed over Rusty as he crouched in his garden, his heart pounding. He let out a cough as he struggled to catch his breath after running for his life from the wild cat. Smudge was right, those wild cats were vicious. Rusty would never go back in the forest again, he bent forward and began to smooth his ruffled pelt. Rusty never wanted to go back there. He would never go back to the forest. He cast a glance back at the forest before padding into his nest.
He walked across the soft floor and got in his nest, he curled up and closed his eyes. He slowly drifted off to sleep.• • •
