I'm Maria, I've known Suzane since kindergarten, which we started at the age of 4. Today we are 16 years old, that is, 12 years of friendship. We're best friends, that's for sure. As usual, we went to the biggest mall in Florianópolis, after all we love to spend, we both belong to the elite of Santa Catarina, so money is not a problem. However, our parents, old and cheap, watch our credit card bills, and don't allow us to spend consecutive weeks, so me and Su have an arrangement, one week I pay everything and the next week she does.
Today it was my turn to cover all our expenses. I took my Mastercard Black, then an Uber to my "best"'s house and, like that, we went to capitalist paradise. Arriving there, we went straight to Gucci, after all, we wanted a new bag, no bag, a new G-U-C-C-I.
When we entered the store, the seller came to assist us, we spent hours observing the perfections present there. If I could, I'd buy the roof there, and I can, but Dad would be mad at me, and for the moment I want to avoid fights.
We decided, I'll take the Gucci black, limited edition, produced by Swedish hands, and of course, the profits will revert to an African NGO for the treatment of AIDS. I'm very charitable, no?? While Suzane decided that the striped Gucci, classic edition, inspired by the French Revolution, is more her face, after all she is the biggest lacradora in this country, she fights daily to support women, sisterhood is fundamental these days, right?
When paying, before going to the next adventure, at the cashier, I type the password, suddenly "Transaction denied" appears. How is that denied? I call my father and look for satisfaction, since my card has no limits. And that's how I found out, we're broke. In tears I told Su, she at the first moment showed sadness, however, immediately after that, her face was taken by indifference. So he left without saying a word, not even looking at my face.
I'm at home, alone, lying down, crying. I lost my strength, my money. Is Suzane also gone? She didn't answer the calls, nor did she view the messages. Perhaps, the philosophy lesson of that Bauman theory, about liquid modernity and superficial relations, makes a little more sense now.
