LIttle boys, taught to be brave

Fight to win or fight to the grave.

"You're the one who has to be strong,"

Daddies tell them, but maybe that's wrong.

Little girls taught to be pretty in pink,

Hold the home together, easy you'd think;

Being brave by cleaning the dust, really not tough

But if that's all you think, it's not enough.

These little girls, they tend to grow

Become the mamas faster than you know.

And then they are handed that important role.

Protecting what's ours, getting back what was stole.

She held that little soldier; held him within;

Feeding him from her soul so his life could begin.

Watched him grow up - she helped him get strong

Nurtured his body, mind and spirit with her song.

Mothers, they give those men and boys

Reasons to fight: protecting those joys

that are slowly but surely draining from her eyes

Every time one of those little boys dies.

The boys, taught to be brave

Leave it on the field; who is digging his grave?

Those little girls, taught to be pretty in black;

Growing old knowing. She isn't getting her baby back.
