"We need to leave this place, first thing in the morning" Neteyam whispered.
As he slowly stood up, he reached for his dagger. But in a blink of an eye, the teal silhouette disappeared, leaving nothing but the empty void & trees infront of our sight.
My ears flattened to his statement, knowing that i cant travel a long distance because of our baby. I can do anything on ground, but not up in the air for hours or days. Its just not safe for anyone who is sick or carrying a child.
Learning from our past experience back at Omatikaya, our eyes searched the perimeter for any traces of villagers or rogue warriors lurking around the trees & stream.
"Lets go back" he said, tying my loincloth on for me.
The sky was still dark so we had the upper hand to move back to the village discretely up in the trees, even tho i was putting my body at risk trying to catch up to him.
The trees at the Metkayina were different from Neteyam's home. There were no vines, or anything that could leap us onto the next tree. We simply had to jump without losing our balance. & it was tiring considering what we had just did minutes before this.
It was as though a pair of eyes were following our every movement & we had to be cautious of our surroundings. We couldn't help but stop at every tree just to make sure nothing was about to sprung at us from any direction.
As we reached closer to my pod, Lo'ak & Tsireya was still awake, sitting by the walkway with their feet dipped in the water.
"Where did you guys go?" Lo'ak asked.
Neteyam & i noticed his little brother's hand over Tsireya's, interlocked & hiding them behind his back.
"We just went for a stroll pass the stream" i said with a smirk.
Lo'ak noticed his brother & i smiling wide to his first lovey dovey moment with a girl, immediately turning bright red in embarrassment. Tsireya on the other hand, thought it was cute at how her new boyfriend was getting shy over something so simple.
"So um-, Tsireya. Do you know where your brother might be?" Neteyam asked.
Both Tsireya & i exchanged nervous glances before she replied,
"No idea brother. Last i saw him, was when i was sitting with you guys at dinner" she said.
I can assume that Neteyam would think that the mysterious silhouette was Aonung. But, Aonung wouldn't pull something like that. Right? not after apologising & earning my trust again..
"Is he not at home with your family? or with Rotxo?" Neteyam asked again.
"Lo'ak & i came to sit here right after the feast, away from our parents to have a chat. Rotxo was probably with Kiri" Tsireya replied.
"Mmm.." Neteyam hummed with crossed arms in suspicion of her brother.
"We saw someone spying on us near the stream, he was tall, definitely from this village & had similar face tattoos as Aonung. But- ..we can't say for sure" i spoke softly to Tsireya as i knelt down infront of her.
"Isn't that deep in the roots? why would anyone other than you guys be there at that hour?" Lo'ak innocently asked, turning to Tsireya.
Tsireya sighed & faced down, I could tell she didn't want any more complications to fall on her brother's shoulders. So did i, it would be too much on the chief's family that their son was causing any inconveniences to the Sullys after the hut incident.
Tonowari & Ronal would take severe action on him because Toruk Makto & his family was present.
"We will have to ask him in the morning if we want to know if it was really him" she replied.
