To Be Determined

Prologue

Andrew, Elizabeth, (my parents) Frank, and Juliet (Myles's parents) had been friends since their freshman high school crew team. Juliet (Jules as I like to call her) was delighted to find out my mom was pregnant with a girl (me) just two years after she gave birth to a boy (Myles).

"Lizzie, they are going to be best friends", Jules giggled.

"Hopefully, they get along", replied my mom.

"I'm sure they will. Maybe they'll get married" Jules smiled at the sonogram.

"Please. They'll be too far apart in age," my mom vocalized as she seized the photograph.

"Once you hit high school, it won't even matter"

"Mhmm..."

"Have you thought of a name?"

"Madison."

Myles sat with me on my first day of sixth grade until I found a solid group of friends, but other than that we didn't talk much. Until, my freshman year of high school when I joined the crew team, and Myles was the coxswain of my boat.

We started to spend more time together outside of crew: camping, hiking, and taking a drive to Shepard Park's Beach. My fears of swimming at night dissipated because Myles provided a sense of security and calmness I haven't been able to find since I was a kid. We build campfires on the beach and float on our backs gazing into the stars. It's my escape from the chaos of my home.

Since my brother, Max, was born, my parents frequently got into some domestic altercations. Most of the time it was about my dad's drinking, his absence from dinner, or why he was spending so much time at work. You could cut the tension with a knife in that house. And it doesn't help that recently my mom made my dad pack up all his junk and leave.

A/N: Hiiiiiii. I'm just testing the waters with this book-ish thing I am writing. It started as a scene that I wrote for theater, and then it became a short film script, and now I am writing it as a complete story centered around my main character Madison :) I have no clue what this will turn into, but come join me for the ride.
