Seeing that you'd made it into the truck, Vash himself made a b-line for it. His boots thumped against the ground as his hands reached for the door desperately prying it open before slamming it closed behind himself.
Opening his mouth to speak, a hand had reached out from the back swatting at his face. "Hey! Wha- (Y/N) It's me! It's me!" Trying to tuck his head away from the onslaught of swings his hands continued to hold the driverside door shut, the tinted windows doing little to shield the inside away from the angry criminals.
"Sorry! I thought you were one of them!" Calling that out you spared the blond a glance from over your shoulder, metal clamps held in hand as you tried to maneuver around the dimly lit container that the plant had been in.
"Progress on hooking up the plant? I don't know how long it'll take these guys to get in."
"Just need to hook up one more thing." Your words were spaced out as you'd wedged yourself between the truck's wall and the plant's glass, the temperature of it was warm and if not for the current predicament you'd probably bask in the warmth a little longer. "Take the keys and start it up when I say!"
Letting out a noise to show he understood what you'd said his eyes jumped around the dashboard in search of the key, the area empty of the item. "Where is it?"
"What?!"
"The key- where's the key?!"
Realizing what he was asking you nearly banged your forehead against the glass, free hand squeezing between the tube and yourself in order to pull the small metal item from your pocket. "Here!"
Seeing you toss the key he leaned out to catch it, hands falling short as it landed inches away on the passenger side. Cursing lowly his eyes darted from the door he'd been fighting to keep closed towards the item that'd be your escape.
"(Y/N)-" "The engine! Start it!" Without much hesitation Vash kicked the driverside door open, body leaning towards the passenger side where the key was retrieved and punched into the ignition.
Twisting the key a clicking noise sounded, followed by a few more until the vehicle let out a low beep.
"Batteries still dead- What do we do?" Trying to see if there were any other buttons he could push Vash's gaze darted towards the thieves before moving towards the rearview mirror, eyes trailing across where you'd been squished against the plants' enclosure.
Breathing against the glass you lightly banged your forehead into it a few times, you knew plants could create energy and other resources but you suppose you failed to take in its environment as a factor in this- of course, it wouldn't work like a simple battery to jumpstart a car.
"Come on, please just- something- anything."
The white leafy ball within the tube seemingly rippled in place, the faintest of white glows quickly and unnoticeably lighting up the vehicle, its engine roaring to life loudly nearly scaring the soul out of you and Vash.
"It worked," Trailing off you perked up, "It worked! Vash it wor-" Being squished by the large glass tube cut off your excitement, the blond currently in the driver's seat having stepped on the gas as soon as the engine roared to life.
"Hold on (Y/N)- this'll be a little bumpy." Calling out over his shoulder the blond gripped the steering wheel tightly, the vehicle skidding around the sand and jolting over any rough terrain.
Between the rough turns that caused you to bump against the walls of the truck and practically getting rolled over like dough under a rolling pin- you weren't quite sure what was worse. Perhaps the concussion that was beginning to form would occupy that slot in the meantime.
The drive back to town was quick in his opinion- you however felt like it took an eternity of ping-ponging against the glass enclosure of the plant and the wall of the truck.
Leaning his forehead against the steering wheel Vash let out a breath, "Looks like we made it." Sucking in a breath and releasing it once more, he waited for a response that seemingly didn't come. "(Y/N)?"
"Yeah great, splendid- a little help would be appreciated now though."
Twisting in place he nearly slapped himself in the face, he'd been so focused on getting away that he'd completely forgotten that the plant was most likely loose in the back where you- subsequently were.
"Ah right! Sorry-" Scrambling to hop out and head to the back the blond had forgotten to shift the truck into park, his mind only really registering the blunder when it began rolling forward without him. "Wait- gah!"
Wanting to bang your head against the glass at the predicament there was a little part of you that practically accepted this as your fate. At least you didn't have to return empty-handed, now that would be a blow to your pride.
Upon first meeting Vash- you'd thought nothing of it, the name wasn't common but you wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Although now you knew you were dealing with the oh-so-famous,
Humanoid Typhon, Vash the Stampede.
Feeling the vehicle drag through the sand some more and hit more sections of rough terrain you let your head fall back against the truck's wall, the dimly luminescent heartbeat-like glow from the plant appeared to try and comfort you if that was even possible.
"Well, so much for quick and easy." Muttering that out under your breath you stared up at the ceiling, the rattling and clanging of the truck moving was a reminder that you were still on the move.
There was a part of you that felt like you couldn't sneak out and put the breaks on yourself-but the narrow space you'd wedged into earlier on reminded you that that wouldn't be possible.
Not even a minute later there was a loud bang, followed by the grating noise of the truck's axles scraping against the ground. Some rough turns and jolts had you bouncing around once more until the vehicle crashed into something- the front of it folding in on itself.
Maybe you would've preferred to die- your body certainly wouldn't have hurt as much in that case.
Much like before the barrel of his gun smoked from the shots, his eyes focusing intently on the now-still vehicle only snapping back once he was certain it wasn't going to go anywhere. His boots yet again thundered against the ground, his hands reaching out nearly ripping the back of the truck off its hinges.
Turning your head at the newly opened doors you puffed out a breath, body aching in protest as Vash shifted the plant's enclosure in order for you to move.
"Humanoid Typhoon is a fitting name for you-" openly stating that you popped out from the truck kneeling on the sand for a second or two basking in the open space. "And that says a lot considering I met you just yesterday."
"Sorry about that." With a sheepish laugh, Vash rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly, trouble just seemed to follow him wherever he went.
