Y/N POV
"Come on! I know it's the fourth time this week we've been here, but it's just too good!"
"Alright, but this is the last time. I've really been interested in checking out that new Wingeria place that's opened up in the town over."
I grabbed Penny's hand and led her inside. "Alright, I promise, now come on." I heard that all too familiar sound—the jingle of the bells when I pushed open the door. I could smell it. The scent of fresh pizza being made behind the counter. As I looked around, I could see Cletus, Wally, Professor Fitz, and Hank all seated around a four-seated table. The table was made of a light grain and looked freshly wiped down by Roy. They were sharing a large pizza and conversing about whatever it is that middle age men talk about; sports, the news—you know, the same old boring stuff. I could tell which slice was Wally's considering there were heaps upon heaps of mayonnaise. I turned my head to look at the art displayed on the wall. There are some advertisements here and there and colorful wall art promoting new menu items, but one thing really caught my eye. It's a photo of Louie holding a certificate declaring him the most famous, renowned chef worldwide. His proud smile is slightly covered by his bushy mustache and he has his arm wrapped around his nephew, Roy, who also sports his classic cheesy smile.
"Whatcha thinking about," Penny teased. "Your smile's getting bigger by the second.
My smile dropped. "Nothing, I'm thinking about a joke I heard, nothing too funny," I said, trying to sound believable. We walked towards the counter where Roy greeted us. He gave us a smile that could brighten our day. I've known Roy for so long because I practically grew up with him and his uncle. After all these years, I can tell that inside, Roy feels disappointed in himself since his uncle's so successful yet so young. It doesn't help that they are around the same age too. It probably stings knowing that he had to get this job through him and not by his own merit, but I know he'll be successful on his own one day.
"So, the usual?" His words pull me out of deep thought.
"Hmm, why don't you give us your favorite instead? I've been dying to know what's become your favorite after working here for quite some time."
"Alright, I'll make it a surprise then. You guys can take your seat in the corner as usual." We say our thanks and go to our small booth in the corner of the shop near the windows. I like this spot because it gives us a clear view of the outside and is surrounded by plants. It's cozy and cute. Penny and I chat for a bit until Roy arrives with our pizza. He takes off his apron and joins us. It's a simple mushroom and pepper pizza with extra cheese. A simple pizza for a simple person.
"Hey, I thought you were supposed to be working right now," Penny said chuckling a bit.
"I know, but if Louie isn't here, what's stopping me from having a bite?" he laughed. He has one of the cutest laughs I've ever heard. It's light but raspy. "Anyways, if he stops by later, I'll just say I'm on break. I'm making less than minimum wage anyways, I'm not going the extra mile because what check am I getting?" He laughed again and we both joined him because we also knew the struggle.
"Anyways, I'm still surprised that Alberto said he liked me too. I mean, it's been a week and I can't get over it." Penny's face had a pink tinge to it. Alberto and Penny work at the Freezeria and it's obvious that they've liked each other since they met. It's too cute and I'm lowkey jealous, cause why I don't got a relationship like that?
"Okay, we get it, y'all are a couple," Roy rolled his eyes
"If you're jealous, just say that," Penny and I laughed. "Like, we're both in the same boat so why are you talking?" This caused Penny to laugh even harder. This also caused Roy to punch me in the arm lightly.
"This doesn't look like working." We were too busy laughing that we didn't even notice Louie walking in.
"Sorry, I didn't notice my break was up, I'll get back to work," Louie said nothing as he watched Roy get up and push in his seat. He gave Penny a side hug and landed a small kiss on my forehead.
"We'll talk later, see you guys soon." And with that, Roy went back to work.
