As soon as the door clicked shut Henri and me turned on the faucets so we could talk again. So many questions were on my mind I could barely wait till the water was rushing again.
„Did you just- could you maybe repeat that, I think I misunderstood something...", I stammered, unable to form a straight sentence.
„Oh no, you didn't. The royal family, Prince Charles in particular want Lady Diana dead. And they planned her murder for today."
„What? That's...that can't be true.."
„It is! Didn't we settle that? You said you believed me!"
„Yes, yes, alright, I do. But...why do they want to kill her. And how?"
At that, Henri looked even more uneasy. In fact, I half expected him to through up here and now. But instead he cleared his throat and looked me in the eyes when he answered:
„How? The blackmailed me to do it so isn't it obvious?"
I started to get an idea of it but I refused to believe it fully. Henri must have noticed my uncertain look on my face so he clarified:
„A car crash, Trevor. Make it look like a tragic accident. Do you understand it now? I have to crash the car, I have to kill her.."
His voice broke. Henri just confirming what I had feared.
„And why? What could possibly be the reason for such cruel murder?", I asked him, my voice not a lot steadier than his.
„God only knows the whole truth. But I do know that they desperately want to get rid of her. Clear the way for Prince Charles to remarry, y'know?"
I knew. But there was one thing I didn't know:
„Henri, why did you tell me about all this? I'm sure you're not meant to. Do you want me to stop you??"
„No..I mean, I wouldn't want anything more than to put an end to this but to be fair, I don't think it's possible. They while fucking royal family is in on this. It's too late..."
„So why did you tell me?"
„Because I can't die without telling someone what I know first. I can't do this alone. I'm not expecting you to do anything, I just had to tell someone...."
After a long pause he added:
„And...I figured you'd like to know, since.."
His voice trailed off again, so I decided to finish his sentence, apprehending what he was getting at:
„...since I am going to die as well."
They graveness of the words only hit my after I had said them aloud. I was gonna die.
„Yes...so I wanted to tell you. Figuring you might want to say goodbye to...to your family."
I could only get out a muffled thank you, fearing I might tear up any second.
This was it. My last day. I didn't expect to live till I was old, having been a soldier and now a bodyguard. Two jobs that aren't exactly famous for being very safe. But I didn't expect it to be so soon. I guess you never do, you can't ever be prepared for your death.A/N:
