Another soul

Chapter 2

Ding~ 

Lara and Kate got off the elevator and went straight to their office. The room was really big and spacious. It had peaceful and cooling colors. 

The married couple went to their desks. They were a few meters apart from each other. Thanks to that they could focus on work and get their job done without any problems.  Originally Kate wanted to sit closer to Lara, but after Lara noticed that her wife didn't work at all because she kept staring at her, she decided to split up their desks. 

Actually, it didn't stop Kate from staring at her lover at all. Right now she was looking at Lara from the pile of papers. Lara was working hard. 

'She is so adorable 

Kate thought. A soft smile appeared on her lips as she was looking at her lover with sparkling eyes. 

Knock ~ Knock

" Come in" 

Said Kate in an irritated tone since she didn't like anyone disturbing their office time together. The door opened and two big strong-looking guys walked in. They bowed. 

"We're here Miss Davis. We just arrived " 

They stated. Kate nodded at them. They were her bodyguards. She didn't want them but her family forced her to have them since the accident. Remembering that horrible night she looked at her lover with sadness in her eyes. Lara's hand was trembling a little over her keyboard. 

It was all because of what happened there. 

A few years ago Kate and Lara decided to watch some action movies at home together. Kate had dozen of a little during it. She pulled an all night yesterday to have a little free time with her wife. She was really tired, unlike Lara who stayed awake the whole time. 

Kate doesn't remember what happened. But from Lara's statement, an assassin broke in a little past midnight. Lara panicked because she didn't know how to fight. She tried to wake up Kate, but her wife didn't react at all as she was deep in sleep. 

When Kate finally opened her eyes it was already too late. The startled assassin desperately threw the knife in their direction and run away. Lara tried to cover Kate with her body and the blade hit her hand. She almost died back then from the loss of too much blood. Fortunately, help was called right away and she survived. To this day Lara can't use her hand fully. 

The only thing that Kate wanted after what happened was to kill the men who hurt Lara. She couldn't understand why did he hurt an angel and blessing like her. Just because of stupid competition between companies? If she found out who it was, it wouldn't stop at skinning and boiling that person alive. No, it would be much more painful.

Kate blinked and finally took her eyes off Lara who was now greeting the bodyguards 

" Hi guys" 

She said smiling.

" Hello,  Miss Davis. How was your weekend ?"

One of them asked.

"It was great. How did yours go and do you want any coffee? I'm already going to make some for Kate "

"It was also great. Thank you for asking and don't worry, we will go prepare the coffee for both of you." 

'' Really? Thank you guys"

" No problem Miss."

After the bodyguards walked out a beaming glow appeared from Kate. They were finally alone again.

After working for the whole day Lara's whole body felt sore all over. She stretched while jawning.

" Let's go now, Kate. It's late " 

She said tiredly 

" Okay "

Kate agreed and got up. They got in the elevator. They made a quick stop on Liam's floor and talk a little with him. After their conversation ended the couple went back to the elevator. Kate pressed the button.  The door opened after a while and they got off at the parking lot. Lara Kissed her wife and walked together with her while hugging her. She loved her lover and she knew Kate also loved her. It was obvious because of the love in her eyes that Lara saw every time she looked at her. They were truly the happiest people alive. 

~ The next day ~ 

Lara especially got up earlier to not wake up her lover. She slipped out of the sheets and went to the bathroom. After tidying herself up and putting on some clothes she went to the garage. She got in her favorite purple car and drove off their mansion. It was heavily raining today. The drop of rain was bumping into her car. She decided to turn on some music from her playlist. She stopped in the traffic and played "Liquid Smooth" by Mitski. The car started to feel with sounds as she turned on her engine again. She didn't really like driving but still Lara tried to enjoy her ride. As she finally began to relax her phone suddenly rang. Her heart skipped a beat after she saw the caller. She answered the call. It was Kate. 

" Good morning darling. Where are you? Why aren't you home ?" 

Lara could hear from her tone that she wasn't happy about her going out alone. Especially since she didn't inform her before.

" Oh, I wanted to cook some breakfasts for us but there weren't any ingredients that I liked in the fridge. That's why I'm driving to the supermarket right now. I'll be right back sweetheart." 

She said in calming tone lying through her teeth.

" Okay. I'm waiting for you to come back home then. Remember to drive carefully since the road could be slippery from the rain right now. Don't ever do that again, I was so worried. 

"Okay, I'm sorry. I love you, bye. " 

Lara said and hang up. Kate didn't sound convinced. But she couldn't tell her the truth since she wanted to surprise her for their anniversary. Lara wanted to buy her something like a dress or some jewelry. Or maybe ... Scratch!

She suddenly lost all control over her car. Lara desperately tried to save the situation but it was too late. The ground was too slippery. Her car slid down the road. The car behind her didn't react fast enough and crashed into her car.

Slam! Agh! Crack!

She only managed to let out a faint scream. After a loud crack, the only thing she could hear was a ringing noise in her ears. She blinked. Her conciseness started drifting away. Her heart was deeply hurt. '

 Am u going to die ?' she asked knowing the answer. She looked at her blood body which was stabbed by pieces of glass from her window. She already knows from the pain that these wounds were fatal and she won't be able to make it. Tears started dripping from her eyes from all that pain and her consciousness started drifting away. She murmured the name of her lover. The one she cherished and cared for the most and wanted to spend the rest of her life with. 

She blinked. Her mind and vision became even hazier. She breathed her last breath and her body went limp. Her normally bright eyes stopped glowing.
