Another soul

Chapter 5

After the last lecture ended, Lara packed her things. She was quite happy because she talked a little with Eve and they both decided to meet later to grab some coffee. They even switched numbers. Lara stand up and was ready to go when someone suddenly blocked her path. It was Dave, Emily's now ex-boyfriend. She didn't even want to look at him.

" Are you keep going to ignore me ?" 

He shouted. He was really angry. Lara sighed. That's why she didn't really like men. They were mostly violent, annoying, and stupid. While the girls were the most friendly creatures alive. Meeting Eve who acted warm and kind towards her not even knowing her proved her point. She took a deep breath to get ready for this dumb man screaming and cursing her for what she will say in a moment.

" I'm breaking up with you Dave. Don't bother me again."

 She then gently pushed him back and walked out from the hall hearing, as she predicted, curses being thrown at her. But it didn't end at that. Of course, it couldn't. 

The man that was now behind her reached his hand to grab Lara by her arm. Of course, he wouldn't leave her alone. But Lara knew all that and was quicker than him. She dodged him and lightly pushed him in the direction she wasn't in right now. It resulted in him falling on the cold floor. She could see the shock in his eyes as he quickly turned around to look at her.

But his eyes were met with Lara's cold and judging gaze. He felt hopeless and shattered in front of the women that once favored him. He got up and walked away not even daring to look at her again. Lara continued walking after that.

After going back to her mansion she walked straight to her room and started studying. She was preparing for an English test, which as she later learned during conversation, Eve was also participating in. The reason she did that was her mother's promise that if she will rank high on this test they will give her a position in their company. If she would work in their company there would be a high chance that she will finally meet the love of her life - Kate.  With that in mind, she started to work hard since she forgot many things over the past years.

~2 weeks later~

The scores were going to be hung up on the main billboard today. They were only two minutes before it will happen. Eve and Lara were talking they stress out. Finally, a woman walked past them and hung up the list with scores. Happiness filled Lara when she saw her name at the early beginning of the list. She got third place and Kate first. Some boy they didn't know got second place. They couldn't care less since both of them made their goal come true. Two women went happily to the nearest cafeteria to celebrate. They went here together a few times before.

" So, what are your plans this weekend? If you don't have any maybe we can go to the cinema? I heard there's a new film that's pretty good. We can watch it together."

 Eve asked while sipping on her coffee.

" Of course! I would love to since I'm free this weekend. How does this meeting at 12 o'clock sound? I can peak you up." 

Lara answered enthusiastically. She was quite cheerful these days since the day of graduation was coming close. It meant that she will soon meet Kate. Today Lara will ask her mother if she can work in their company in return for a good place on the test. They will probably agree and the next step will be busting up their company with her skills. 

After graduation, she will ask her parents to arrange a meeting with her baby and they will agree to it for sure once they see her skills. With that in mind, she waved goodbye to Eve after the end of their conversation. She was going to just go home to talk with her parents when suddenly her phone rang. It was the professor that organized her so important test. Lara answered her call.

" Hello, Ms. Ames. Why did you call me? Does it regard the test I took a week ago?"

"Hello, Emily. You're right. It's about the test. I got an anonymous report saying that you cheated on it. After looking at your grades before I can't help but doubt your improvement."

Lara sighed. She hated unexpected situations. But she knew what she had to do to clear this misunderstanding. She could also find out who reported her but she already could guess who it was. Probably her ex-boyfriend or her ex-friends. So she moved on and introduced the solution to the problem.

" As I know I can clear my name by getting examined again. It just has to be a spoken exam, right?"

"Yes, but I'm afraid it.." 

"You don't have to worry Ms. Ames." 

Lara cut her off.

" I know that I got here because of my parents but I studied hard this time. I'm ready to do the exam again. I'm near the campus so I can go back and do it now. Would that be alright?

"Oh, sure. I will ask a few more teachers and we will together test what you learned. Thank you for agreeing on redoing the test." 

The professor ended the call.

2 hours later Lara's phone rang. It was Emily's mother. 

" Hi, sweetheart. Are you handling up with Eve? Your quite late."

She asked.

"I was in college. I had a little problem with the test I took a week ago."

 Lara answered.

" Don't worry about not passing it. We will never abandon you so you don't have to worry about your future job. In this situation, we will just wait until your graduation, because..."

"It's not like that Mom. I got third place. " 

Lara cut her off in the middle of the sentence.

"Really? That's great! After you get home we can discuss the details of your employment. Oh, I'm so proud of you! We will have to celebrate it."

Emily's mother was beaming with happiness.

"Okay, bye, Mom." 

Lara ended the call.

" Oh, how I miss Kate. But it's okay since we will meet soon. " 

Lara thought as she walked out of the collage.
