"Mom I see the camp!" I say excitedly, looking out the window from the passenger seat.

She pulls into the long gravel driveway of Black River Horse Camp. I see a large barn to my left, and i squeal at the sight of horses in the big field.

We eventually get to the end of the long road, and she pulls into a parking spot in the parking lot.

I immediately unbuckle my seatbelt and open the door after mom shuts the car off. I get out and excitedly open the back door, pulling out my suitcase and backpack, along with a white garbage bag holding my sleeping bag and pillow.

Mom gets out and locks the car. "Need any help carrying your stuff?"

I put my backpack on, heave my duffel bag strap over my shoulder and hold onto the garbage bag with my spare hand. "Nope I'm good!"

She laughs and starts walking toward the main building where I see the check in table is right outside. "Ok then."

I follow her, walking kind of fast.

"Woah there, slow down Everleigh." mom says, stepping to the side.

"Sorry, I'm just so excited." I continue heading toward the building.

Mom follow me up to the table and i set my stuff down on the cement patio.

A lady who looks about to her in her 20s with blonde hair pulled back into a pony tail looks up at me from her clipboard. "Hi, welcome to Black River Horse Camp, name?"

"Everleigh Jackson." I reply, and see the name on her name tag says Alex.

Alex looks at her clipboard and flips a couple pages. She stops and marks on the paper with her pen. "Great, you'll be in cabin number 5, just go to that group of girls over there." She points to the left. "You'll find your cabin counselor, Jessie. Talk to her."

I turn and looks, seeing a group of girls talking by a bale or hay, and I see a tall brown haired woman about the same age as Alex. "Thanks."

Alex then rips a blue strip of paper off a bunch and hands it to me. "This'll be your wristband for this summer, make sure you never take it off. Each section of cabins has their own color team. There's 2 teams for girls and 2 for boys."

I nod and put my wristband on and pick up my stuff. "Thank you." I turn to look at mom.

"Well, I think I can go now, you sure you don't want me to walk you to your cabin?" mom asks.

"Haha no thanks mom, I'm not 10 anymore." I laugh and hug her.

"You have a fun summer, Eve, love you." she hugs me back.

I pull from the hug saying, "Love you too, mom." and walk away towards the group of girls.

I tap on Jessie's shoulder. "Um, hi, is this cabin 5 with Jessie?"

Jessie turns around and looks at me. "Oh hi! Yes I am, you must be Everleigh." she looks at her clipboard.

"How did you know that?" I ask curiously.

She laughs and looks back at me. "I have a list of everyone in my cabin this summer, you're the last one on the list to arrive."

"Ohhh-" I say, looking down at my feet.

She turns around to look at the other girls. "Girls, now that we're all here, how about you introduce yourself? Say your name, age, and uhhhh- you're favorite color." she laughs.

"Um, hi, I'm Savannah, I'm 17, and my favorite color is pastel yellow." I say.

A girl with black hair that goes all the way down to her waist talks. "Hi, I'm Savannah, I'm 17 and my favorite color is sage green."

A curly blue haired girl goes next. "I'm Zarah, I'm 16 and my favorite color is blue." she laughs at the irony of her hair color.

"Hiiii, my name is Gianna, I'm 15 and my favorite color is rose gold."

The next girl in the circle looks down at her feet and hesitates for a moment. "H-hi, I'm L-lilly, I'm 16 a-and my favorite color is b-baby blue."
I can see the anxious look in her face and smile politely at her.

She looks up and sees my smiling, and gives me a faint smile back.

3 more girls introduce themselves. They're Carter, Melissa and Annie.

After we all talk got a few minutes, Jessie speaks. "Ok girls, now that we've all gotten to know each other, let's all go to the cabin and pick your bunks."

Everyone picks up their stuff from the ground and starts walking. I'm walking in between Zarah and Annie.

Zarah notices my light blue high top converse with yellow daises on the side. "Omg I love your shoes, Everleigh."

I look down at them and back up at her and smile. "Oh thanks."

Jessie leads us across a big field and up a paved pathway to a half circle shaped area with 5 cabins surrounding it. There's a large fireplace in the center with 4 half cut tree trunks around it.

Jessie walks us up to a cabin on the far left that has the number 5 on the side of the door. She opens it and turns the light on and we all walk in.

"Wanna share a bunk?" Zarah asks as we walk in together.

"Sure." I reply, waking towards a bunk on the back right corner by a window. "Do you want the top of bottom bunk?"

Zarah sets her stuff down on the floor. "I don't really mind, you can pick."

"Ok." I say, and set my stuff down, pulling my sleeping back and pillow out of the garbage bag and setting them up on the top bunk.

Zarah unzips her large rolling suitcase and pulls her blanket and pillow out of it. She sets it on the bottom bunk and plops down on the edge of it.

I climb up on my bunk after making the bed and sit criss cross, looking around the cabin and watching everyone pick their bunks and making their beds.

Jessie already has her stuff set up on the large twin bed, and she just sits down on it and watches everyone, like me.

Once everyone has their stuff set up, they're all just chilling on their bunks.

"Alright girls, so, agenda for today." she looks at her clipboard and back up at us. "In about 30 minutes, at 1:00pm, the whole camp has to go down to the mess hall for the meeting l to basically talk about what's happening this summer."

We all look at her and nod, and I realize Zarah had climbed up onto my bed without me noticing. I smile and look back at Jessie.

"Then after that each color group will go one at a time to the stables to pick their horse for the summer. Yes, you all get to pick your own horses, I know, exciting." she laughs.

Everyone's faces light up, and I'm basically screaming inside from excitement.

"After that will be the first camp game at 3:00, which is basically capture to flag but its a cowboy hat."

Everyone laughs and looks at each other.

Jessie then pulls a piece of paper from her clipboard. "Here is the schedule for this week, I will tape it on the wall by the door, you can take a picture for reference." She grabs tape from the bedside table and takes a piece, walking over to the door and taping the paper on the wall.

"Now I'm sure you're all wondering when you get to ride the horses." she narrows her eyes at all of us. "After the group game you will be able to go up the the table outside the main building to sign up for activities. There is trail riding, learning to barrel race, vaulting, etc. There's also archery, rock climbing, swimming, and arts and crafts in the other building next to the mess hall."

Everyone gasps when she says vaulting. I've never been vaulting before but I've seen videos band I really wanna try.

We all get off our bunks and take a picture of the schedule. "So what do we wanna do until the meeting?" I ask.
