"Another stupid penny!" Dustin yells out as he tosses the penny from the couch behind him, and Marie watched him from the kitchen. Steve stood next to her, and chuckled when Dustin turned to his mother.
"Can I please check under your cushions?" He asked her, and Mrs. Henderson groaned.
"Dusty." She says, and Marie chokes on her water she had been drinking.
"You okay?" Steve questions her, and she nods her head. Steve rubbed her back, and she caught a glimpse of the watch she had gifted him for christmas last year.
"Marie what are your plans tonight?" Her mom asks her, and she looks over at her.
"Steve and I are going to go watch The Hills Have Eyes Part 2, they haven't taken it out of the theaters yet." She tells her mom, and her mom just nods her head.
"Who's paying for this?" Her mom asks, and Steve raises his hand.
"I am, Mrs. Henderson." He tells her mom. Her mother nods her head and smiles, and then looks at Marie.
"There is some cash in my purse, take it to help pay for snacks." Mrs. Henderson knew Steve was rich enough to afford the tickets and the candy, but she wanted her daughter to be independent.
"Okay, thanks mom." Marie says and kisses her moms head before walking over to her purse.
"Okay! Love you guys! I gotta meet the boys at the arcade." Dustin says as he runs out of his room, and Steve looks at him.
"You love me?" Steve asks jokingly, and Dustin stares at him for a few seconds.
"Sure why not." Then he runs out the front door, and Marie stares after her little brother.
She knew why he had said that to Steve. Dustin stilled believed that her and Steve would date, but she knew in her heart that they wouldn't.
Steve and Nancy had fixed their issues after the whole "Nancy the Slut Wheeler" at the movies, and they seemed to be better than ever.
However Jonathan and Nancy were still really good friends, and Marie noticed the small glances that they gave to each other in class. Steve wasn't in any of their classes so he never had to see them, but Marie felt bad for her best friend.
"Marie you ready to go?" He asked, and she looked over at him. Smiling she placed her moms money in her pocket and walked over to the front door, meeting Steve there.
"Bye mom, I love you." Marie says to her mom, and she hears her mom hum.
"Bye-bye, I love you too. Be careful." Her mother responds, and Marie and Steve both nod their heads. Remembering the year before, which they could never tell her mother.
Just after the events of last year Marie and Steve were pulled out of class to meet with some men from the Hawkins Lab. They are basically forced to sign papers that said, they couldn't tell anyone what they had seen or what had actually happened to Will.
So now everyone thought they were a bit weird. They had to tell people that Will got lost in the woods and that the body they found in the lake was a mistaken identity.
Marie hated it. When she had come back to school after everything happened Eddie asked her where she had been the last few days and why she looked so scared.
She wanted to tell him, but she couldn't risk him getting killed or brainwashed by the lab. So she said it was because she had been camping with her dad and they had seen a bear.
Lies.
But she started to distance herself from her friends after that, all but Steve. She hadn't spoke to Nancy since August, and Jonathan well he was usually with Nancy so...
