"This might even reach the Empire!" Brom threw his hands up "You don't even deserve to be called a Rider after this, boy" Brom yanked his sword out of the ground and stomped to the fire. He took a rag from inside his robe and began to angrily clean his blade. Eragon looked stunned, his face blanked as he talked to Saphira but he looked disappointed at the outcome. He turned to Ruth and whispered "What should I do?"
"Speak with Brom I guess? Did Saphira say anything?"
Eragon sighed "That's exactly what she said"
Eragon hesitantly walked over to Brom "Would it help if I said I'm sorry?"
Brom sighed and sheathed his sword
"No it wouldn't. Your feelings can't change what happened" He jabbed his finger at Eragon's chest
"You made some very bad choices that could've had dangerous outcomes. Least of which you almost died! Died, Eragon! From now on you're going to have to think. There's a reason we're born with brains in our heads, not rocks."Eragon nodded, cheeks flushed, abashed "It's not as bad as you think; they already knew about me. They had orders to capture me"
Ruth sighed. How could someone be more stupid? This only made things so much worse. She pinched the top of her nose, wondering how a rider could be so foolish. She walked past the two males that were around the fire and sat opposite them.
Brom's eyes widened with astonishment, he stuck his unlit pipe into this mouth
"No it's not as bad as I thought it's worse!!" Brom cried "Saphira told you talked with the Urgals but she didn't mention this!"Eragon began to ramble, he explained what the Urgals said. The more Eragon said, the more Ruth realised how underprepared he was to be a rider. She sighed again and returned her fingers to her nose. Eragon gave her a quick glare before finishing his story.
"So they had some sort of leader, eh?" Brom questioned
Eragon nodded"And you just defied his wishes, insulted him and attacked his men?" Brom shook his head "I didn't think it could get any worse. If the Urgals had been killed, your rudeness would have gone unnoticed. But now it's impossible to ignore. Congratulations, you just made enemies with one of the most powerful beings of Alagaësia."
"All right, I made a mistake," Ergon said, sullenly. Ruth began to feel bad for him, he is just an irresponsible, untrained, young boy. She didn't know his exact age but she guessed he was around 15.
"Yes, you did" Brom agreed, eyes flashing "What has me worried though is who this Urgal is"
Eragon shivered, asking softly "What happens now?"
There was an uncomfortable pause, in which Ruth shifted her weight to a more cosy position on the floor "Your arm is going to take a few weeks to heal. That time will be spent forging some sense into you. I suppose this is partially my fault. I've been teaching you how to do things, but not whether you should. It takes discretion, which you obviously lack" Ruth stifled a laugh "All the magic in Alagaësia is useless to you if you don't know how to use it"
"But we're still going to Dras-Leona right?" Eragon asked, Brom rolled his eyes
"Yes, we are still going to look for the Ra'zac, but it doesn't matter if we find them, it won't do any good until you're healed." Brom began unsaddling Saphira "Are you well enough to
ride?""I think so" Eragon replied
"Good then we can still cover a few miles today"
"Where are Cadoc and Snowfire?"
Brom pointed off to where Ruth and he had put them earlier "Over there a ways. Ruth and I picketed them where there was grass"
Eragon and Ruth prepared to leave then followed her and the old man to the horses. Eragon and Saphira exchanged a few words, Ruth could tell because Eragon's face looked a little hurt. As they rode, Eragon grimacing at very little bump, Ruth quickly found it annoying but refrained from saying anything. Brom drilled Eragon with extremely difficult scenarios, with shades, magic, Urgals and Saphira even a few included Ruth which surprised her and Eragon too. Eragon discovered that he could be tortured in his mind and body at the same time. When they stopped for the night, Brom was disappointed. Ruth was confused why he hadn't questioned her but stayed silent.
