I was desperate, I needed to get away. From school, my family, my friends, from everything. Just for a weekend, nobody knows you, about your past, your present or future. No questions about what I will do after school, where I will study, where I will work. It was a last minute thing so nothing was luxurious, but on the other hand nothing couldn't be luxurious when in Monaco. I booked the flight and train last minute, it was pure luck that there was a room left in a hotel. Wednesday afternoon I was in a taxi to the airport, no one knew where i was going, no one asked either. It was no coincidence that everything was fully booked everywhere, Formula one came to Monaco only once every year. It was exciting, to be away on your own to meet lots of new people, make a new name for yourself. Everything went well with checking in and security at the airport. Every once in a while a person with a Formula one merch walked by, I smiled at the thought that I would see Formula one in real life for the first time. I have followed Formula one for many years and now it was finally time.
The train ride was not long but I could stare at the beautiful ocean for hours. Here would be a nice place to live, if I only had the money. How can people be rich enough to live here? Monaco was even prettier than the train ride, all of the buildings and big boats, the sun shining everywhere. Walking through the streets made me feel like a rich person, everyone around me was excited about the weekend. Beautiful people, cars and houses everywhere I looked, I would give everything to have this life.
The hotel didn't look much on the pictures but it was beautiful, not luxurious. It was extra luxurious at home, with a double bed and a view over the ocean. This weekend would be fun, a quick fix up and change of clothes later I made my way down to the streets again. I packed everything in my closet that screamed rich and luxury with a hint of summer. My newly washed hair flowed with the breeze when I walked and my sunglasses rested nicely on my nose. I hoped it looked like I belonged there, because I felt like it. I took a quick walk around the city and looked a bit at the track, all of the boats looked so fancy, people sat there eating, drinking, dancing and swimming. Perhaps I looked a bit too much because all of a sudden somebody spoke to me. "What are you looking at?" a female voice spoke, i made eye contact with the girl. Brunette, mid twenties, drop dead gorgeous. "This boat is impressive, that's all", I said, still a bit shocked at the size of the boat. "Well why don't you join us, i'm sure we have an extra seat". I looked at her as if she was crazy but she waved me on, I carefully got on the boat and greeted everybody, everyone looked amazing. All tanned with formal summer clothes. "Here to watch Formula one?" The same girl said, "Yeah and I needed to get away for a bit, you know." She nodded. "I'm Aurora and these people are my family and these are my friends" She pointed to everybody, i could hear an accent on her but couldn't place what. "Call me Y/N, are you from around here? I noticed the accent" I asked, still shook about the whole situation, she nodded. "We're portuguese, we always take the boat here to watch Formula one." I nodded back. I stayed on the boat the whole night, they made me stay and have dinner which i didn't say no to, i just knew the meals here were expensive. Everyone was so nice and I really had a good time. Late in the evening I made my way back to my hotel room but I got Aurora's instagram so we could meet up again.
Seeing and hearing the cars drive was fantastic, whenever a car came by everyone was amazed. Personally I didn't really have a single favorite driver, I loved them all and it was always fun to watch and compare the teams and drivers and see how they all got better over the season. The friday was spent at the track most of the time, watching both training sessions and seeing Charles be P1 both times. After the sessions I decided to explore the city a bit more, a quick pit stop in my hotel room to change to more training clothes. I went back out on the streets and started walking and running when I felt like it. I learnt that the city was peaceful in the afternoons, not too many people outside but still warm and sunny. Monaco was small but it took time to see most of it, running along all of the buildings, taking everything in. Later I found a small restaurant where the food wasn't too expensive, so I sat down on my own and got dinner. On my way back the sun had started to set so I ran back to my hotel room to get the last few seconds of sun and see the sun disappear in the distance, I looked over the city and took in even more of the beauty of it.
