Chapter 1

MAURA POV

My story doesn't start with a deer being hunted in a dark enchanting forest in the middle of nowhere. This isn't twilight. Don't get me wrong, it's a good story but the writer got vampires all wrong. Our skin doesn't sparkle nor is it like stone, and we don't look like perfect. We are no different to humans when it comes to appearance, we can be over weight, we can be ugly.

Vampire's are far from being immortal, yes we are harder to kill, we don't get sick or get cancer, but we can die from blood lost or a serious injury . We aren't cursed, or undead, we are Ill. In the early 50Bc or so an illness spread across the lands, 1 in 3 people were affected but only a few survived the change. Our blood thinned causing our hearts not to beat as fast, our muscles become stronger causing us to be faster . We become sensitive to sunlight . No one knows why we have our hunger or why we get bloodlust.

The biggest change was our brain. We are able to have abilities other supernaturals can't. Over the years, we have been hunted down by humans, beasts and other supernaturals because of this. We went from populating one third of the world to 200 vampires at most.

Some abilities were wanting more, like mind control , precognition , illusion manipulation and teleportation. Some of us were lucky to posses more then one ability but unlike other vampire i had no abilities causing me to be weaker.

Some people would do anything to get one of us, to experiment, to breed us out in hope of created the perfect weapon.

But as I said my story doesn't start with a deer but it does start with a hunt. And the prey was me.
