Sage's POV
It's a Monday, God I hate Mondays, they're long, boring and so packed with work.
Ever since the former CEO stepped down after being caught doing fraudulent activities, I've been the one doing both his work and mine.
I don't know why Mr Walker hasn't hired a new CEO yet, at least someone to manage the company, I know we're just a small branch compared to the huge tower in New york but still we need all the attention we can get.
I rush into the bathroom of my small apartment as I take a quick shower and step out not wanting to be late.
I put on a biege coloured jumpsuit that covers my body, even though I know it's going to be hot today I can't put on something lighter because of some of my scars, story for another day, I tie my hair in a messy bun, I don't bother applying make up as I quickly rush outside my apartment building so I don't miss the bus to work.
I've been in California for 3 years and working for The Walker Tower California branch for 2 years but I don't own a car, not because I can't afford one but because I don't want to put myself out there more than I have to.
When you're running away from someone as dangerous as my Ex husband, then hiding in plain sight shouldn't be too hard to do.
Lucky for me the bus didn't miss me or should I say I didn't miss the bus, I hop on and find a seat close to the window as usual, watching the buildings pass by in a blur along with my thoughts.
In no time I'm off the bus and making my way into the building, I spot Clair as usual in her seat and she greet me with a huge smile "Morning Sage"
"Morning Clair, I can see you're happy this morning, I wish I had half the energy you have on Mondays, I won't be this miserable" I say making my way to the elevator.
She laughs heartily as I walk past her "You know you love this job honey" she yells after me.
Clair is a year older than I am but she acts like an old lady, sweet and adorable, she's the only one I really talk to at the office and outside the office.
I just shake my head trying to hide my smile as I enter into the elevator, thank God no one's inside, I don't have to deal with anyone this morning.
The elevator stops at my floor and I exit it walking towards my office and going inside.
My table is organised with schedules and contract files neatly arranged on one part of it, I sit down and try to collect my thoughts for the next few minutes before I dive into another torturous day.
___________________________________
It's 8:30am and I'm already exhausted for the day, the whole composed appearance of this morning gone like the wind, making me look like a witch fresh out of a Disney movie.
The phone on my table rings bringing me out of my work daze, I pick up.
"Walker Tower, Good morning how can I be of service to you" I ask trying to sound cheerful even though I'm far from being cheerful.
"Sage, Good morning, always the professional one" I recognize the voice from the other line being that of Mr Walker, I try to conceal the chuckle threatening to escape my mouth.
"Good morning sir" I smile even though he can't see me
"How are you"? He asks, he has always been nice to me, always asking about my well being. I've only ever met him thrice since my employment but he has always been a nice old man to me.
"I'm fine sir" my voice slipping between professional and casual mode "How is the family"? I ask
I know of his wife and three children or is it four, I don't really know, honestly I have things bothering me than wanting to find out how many children my boss has.
