Stardate: n. According to Gene Roddenberry in "The Making of Star Trek," stardates were originally created "simply to keep from tying ourselves down to 2265..." and to make clear that Star Trek was set in the future.

Warp speed: n. In the Star Trek universe, a faster-than-light speed attained by a spaceship using a warp drive

Prime Directive: n. The most important rule or law, which must be obeyed above all others.

Cloaking device: n. A device which renders something invisible or undetectable.

Holodeck: n. A room-sized chamber that creates a complete holographic environment

Transporter: n. Transportation device that converts objects or persons to energy, sends that energy to the destination, and reconstitutes the objects/persons back into matter.

Tricorder: n. A hand-held Starfleet device combining sensors, records, and built-in computing capability. Issued in a variety of models for engineering, scientific and medical uses.

Phaser: n. An energy weapon that fires a beam which can be set to varying degrees of intensity.

Omega Directive: n. Highest directive in Starfleet, outweighs the Prime Directive. Only those with rank Captain and above know this directive.

Starfleet: n. Essentially like the Space Force today, it's mission is to seek out new life and new civilizations and to boldly go where no one has gone before.

United Federation of Planets: n. An interplanetary government.

Disruptor: n. Weapon like a phaser.

Dilitium: n. Crystals used to power a warp drive.

Mirror Universe: n. A universe where everyone is opposite/evil.
