NAMJOON'S POV 🐨

I step out of the shuttle bay to hear the all familiar sound of the boatswain's whistle.

"Captain on deck!" I hear a man say.

I look up and see someone slightly shorter than me, with silky black hair.

Ah yes, Kim Seokjin, my first officer...

All of my officers stand in ready position as I make my way down the hall to meet my first officer.

He's a Bajoran, his ridged nose and his long earring standing out to me.

He's so handsome...

"Hello, I'm captain Kim Namjoon," I say, putting my hand out for him to shake.

He takes it and gives it a soft shake.

"Commander Kim Seokjin, nice to meet you sir. If you come this way, I'll take you on a tour of the bridge," He says kindly.

I nod and then start following him, staying by his side.

We walk in comfortable silence to the turbolift, and when we get on Commander Kim looks at me.

"Sir, may I ask you a question?" He asks

"Of course," I respond.

"Why did you chose me of all people to be your first officer?" He asks timidly.

"What do you mean by that?" I ask back.

He sighs and grabs his elbow awkwardly.

"Well sir, I'm older than you first of all. As well as, my record isn't the most exemplary. I also am not what recently promoted captains want as a first officer," He explained.

I sigh, and fidget with my fingers a bit.

"If I'm being very honest, I wanted someone with experience. I looked at your record, and I know you're not afraid to voice your opinions on certain command decisions. I want someone like that. And about the age thing, I don't really care. All that matters is you do your job, and you do it well," I explain to him.

He looks at me and smiles slightly.

"Thank you sir. I feel a bit better now," He says.

"Please, if we're alone feel free to call me Namjoon," I tell him, trying to be casual with him.

"Well, I suppose you can call me Jin then," He explains.

"I thought Bajorans go by their family names," I say to Jin.

"We typically do, but I was orphan because of the Cardassians. I never knew my parents or any other family. I was called Jin in the resistance, so that's what I typically go by," He tells me.

"Oh..." I say in response.

"You don't need to worry," Jin says, "I don't know my father and my mother worked for Cardassians last time I heard. I don't want to associate with that name. Bridge."

The turbolift starts to rise and we stand in comfortable silence again.

"So, does that mean you prefer Commander Jin or Commander Kim?" I ask.

He looks at me surprised for a moment.

"I'd prefer Commander Jin. We have the same surname, so it would be confusing. But you know sir, you're the first person to ask," He says.
