"Happy Birthday to you!" Voices said in union followed by the clapping of hands. Today was very special, special to a young girl named Audra. Today she turned twelve. And, to celebrate her age changing, her family hosted her birthday party at a familiar restaurant. This restaurant contained arcade machines, prizes, a play area, and who could forget those mascots that are the face of this restaurant? Not Audra, or any of these kids.
After blowing out her candles, and making her wish, her mother began to slice the cake and hand out the pieces. Audra being the first then her cousin then her aunt and so on. Audra took her piece and and slide her fork down the corner and scooped it up to eat. She enjoyed that on her birthday she could have vanilla cake instead of having to settle for chocolate, her father's favorite. Oh, how she began to feel sick around chocolate.
Beside her sat her best friend Jeremy, he seemed to getting anxious as he waited for his slice to be given to him. It was not that he was a fan of cake but he was just eager to dig in straight away so he could run off and get back to the arcade machines. By now some kids probably have formed a line to his favorite game there. Unfortunately, Audra's mother was focusing on family first before she moved on to her friends.
On the other side of Audra was her boyfriend, secret boyfriend, Edwin. She would never tell anyone in her family that she was dating him. Mainly because she was not even allowed to have a boyfriend until she was older and because she preferred that her family stayed out of her business. And, she definitely did not want to get into how she had begun dating a boy like him. Not that he was popular or anything but the way the two met was quite odd that may or may not have included this very restaurant she was having her birthday party at.
Then, she had her last friend that was invited to her party, Kaiden. Kaiden was the youngest and the most sensitive one here. One wrong move could possibly set him off but regardless he was their friend and they loved him. But he, too, started to look like he was getting anxious to go play. The arcade area was not really his interest but instead the playground. He enjoyed going through the tubes and down the slide then back up the slide. Yes, he enjoyed the struggle of having to climb up the slide. He made sure to wear shorts today so his knees would have a better grip when he was climbing up. All he had to worry about was any other kids coming down, which he ran into many times. How Kaiden has not been kicked out is stunning but then again the parents here do not care what happens unless someone starts bleeding.
Finally, Audra's mother started passing out cake slices to her friends. Immediately Edwin had started jabbing his fork into it with Jeremy following his stops. Both boys needed to get back out there soon.
Audra licked off the frosting from her plastic fork, she was done first. She had the personal choice to either wait for her friends or go play on her own. Considering the cake sizes, she decided to wait. And in only a few more bites, all the boys were finished and headed off with the birthday girl.
"Aw, dude!" Jeremy threw up his hands in defeat. His fear had come true and now there was a long line to the game he wanted to play. Two boys had taken over the machine with many other kids gathered around to watch. Most kids their age had enjoyed watching the pixelated characters fight each other in ways they never could in real life. Even on Kaiden's tip-toes, he could not see over the heads of those kids like his friends could.
Not wanting to be a brat on her birthday, Audra moved to a different machine. If there's no fighting available to her, she always had her cars. She was not an expert when it came to car types but she always picked the ones that looked the lightest and customize it to be blue. When she sat down, there were already people sitting and chatting to each other as they changed their cars and voted on a map. The racetrack ended up being in a jungle where you had to outrun a dinosaur, a t-rex to be exact. Every stomp it made caused the seats to vibrate in response like it where happening in real life. It gave Audra the excitement she needed as she raced and rammed her car into the sides of other players. She was not the best at the game, no. Audra didn't play to win, she played to be an asshole to other people.
