Evie woke up with a smile on her face, for the first time in a long time she felt excited to start a new. She picked up the scribbled note she left on the side table and dialled the number into her phone after the 3rd ring a cheery voice filled her ears 'Hello you've called Johnsons Vocal Coaching classes, in Connecticut how may i help you today', she waited a second before answering 'Hi i was wondering whether you had any availability for private voice lessons, I'm free whenever' she explained. 'Give me a second to look through my diary for you dear' she heard the rustle of pages and some other sounds on the line before he spoke back up 'Hi I've actually got an opening today at 10am if you are available, other than that it would be next Wednesday at 2pm and I always take one starter class to make sure you are comfortable and this is the correct path for you before we book regular sessions' Evie answered immediately after 'Yes that is perfect thank you'. 'Okay that's great I just need your full name and phone number, lessons are an hour long and $20 or two hour lessons for $30, however the starter lesson is one hour ' he explained. 'Full name Evie Smith, phone number 476 3885 1837, i will see you later' she answered 'Yes I look forward to getting to know you Evie' he said and put the phone down.

She hopped out of bed and carefully selected her outfit, slightly nervous as she was in a new place and hoped fashion wasn't too different out here. Aware of this and not wanting to look like a fool she put on some black leggings, dark grey hoodie and old skool black and white vans, tying her hair up with a claw clip.

Quickly realising as she sat down on her unmade bed she had no way to get to the vocal classes she googled taxi services in Connecticut, making a note to call her mum and ask how long she was here to see if it would be easier to hire a car during her stay. She looked over her messy hotel room and looked at the time, 8.23 meaning she had plenty of time to give her room a quick tidy and eat some breakfast, she made the bed, tied up the chargers that had taken over the floor, opened the curtains that let in way too much light anyway and lined up her loose shoes by the door. For breakfast she walked down to reception and through the buffet doors grabbing a cup of orange juice and slice of toast before taking it back to her room.

As 9.15 approached she began to get second thoughts, thinking about calling and apologising for wasting his time but explaining that she just couldn't do it, or better yet just not showing up. Telling herself Sarah spent over an hour convincing her she could do it on the plane and knowing how proud her parents would be when she told them she booked a taxi, arriving in 4 minutes.

She sat in the back of the taxi, drowning out the man telling her she had arrived and just staring at the sign reading Johnsons Vocal Classes across a large building, she was brought back into reality at the sigh coming from the man in the front of the taxi 'Look love you gotta get out, I've got other people to drive', she smiled at the man and opened the door apologising before pushing it shut and turning towards the building. Her head was telling her she cant do this and she doesn't need to but she knew how proud of herself she would be, gaining the courage she walked forward and into the building.

A bell rung as the door shut behind her, making her realise she was really doing this. The sense of accomplishment washed over her as she approached the empty office desk, 'one minute' a voice shouted in the background. She looked around, the walls painted a cream colour but filled with pictures and paintings giving the room an oddly comforting vibe, there were a few chairs in the small lobby, all looking new and comfortable, she looked at the desk, it was neatly organised with individual organisers for blue pens, pencils and black pens. A man emerged from the back office 'Hello dear how can I help you' he smiled at her 'Hi i booked a ten o'clock session here' she explained 'Oh okay are you Evie, i remember we spoke on the phone this morning' he continued as she nodded 'Okay follow me, what I'm going to do is just ask you some questions about what you are hoping to achieve and get to know you a bit better, is that okay' she hummed in response.

He held the door open for her, it led to quite a spacious room with a set of table and chairs along with a couch and a television. They both sat down and he began 'So first i would like to just say my names Johnson, if you need me call me anytime, i will always pick up okay hun, so what brought you here' he questioned 'I guess I've always been very quiet and stuck to myself and that meant i struggled making friends when i was growing up.

My parents bought me a plane ticket for my birthday and i was talking to a girl on the plane and she was explaining she used to be very shy like me but she got voice coaching classes and now she's a commentator and gets to travel the world, it just sounded nice as she was explaining it really helped with her confidence' Evie explained 'Okay yes we can definitely work on that, its crazy how little things like this can change your life, so are you looking to be a commentator or an announcer or just a confidence boost' he questioned 'I don't really know, the job itself sounded fun but for now I'm doing this for myself then i will think about that afterwards' she stated 'Okay well then lets get started' he said standing up
