How come...
How is this the safe country?
Where 20 little people,
And 6 brave adults were killed...
Now people live in horror
They live scared to send
Their own children to school
Where they should be safe from any harm
A lot of people had said
Fifty years ago, this wouldn't have happened.
We backed off persons mentally ill too much
Like the young man who caused this tragedy.
We took in mind too much the feelings
Of almost everyone when it came down
To the decision of putting someone in
Mental care or not.
And for that reason, its why
These children and these teachers
Died on that day because of
That one young man.
Those 6 brave teachers
Died because they tried
To protect their children
And lied to the young man.
One of the teachers hid
Her kids in cabinets and bookcases
Then told him,
"They're in the gymnasium."
He went and looked
And found nothing
He came back for her
And left her cold and dead.
Why did they have to die?
And why did the little children
Also have to be taken with them?
They had done nothing wrong...
Twenty little children lost their future
Twenty little children's parents
Weeped and mourned their deaths
For unimaginable hours and days.
Twenty little children were unable
To witness yet another Christmas
Another New Year's or
Another birthday.
Twenty little people were taken
Taken from our society
Even without doing anything
Anything wrong at all.
Which is why I don't understand
Why they call this
"The Safe Country",
When it isn't true, in my opinion...
I'm scared....
I'm worried, and not about myself...
I'm worried about the people around me
And about those who I care about...
I wonder when all
These problems and all these
Tragedies will end
Once and for all.

This poem is dedicated to the 20 small children and the 6 brave teachers who were lost in the Newtown, Conn. shooting, on Dec. 14, 2012. It may be late, but I just wanted to pay respect to them when I could. :)
