She could feel blood drip from her nose as her hands held the soft fur of an unknown animal, their slight whimpers slowing down underneath her palms, her heart sped up hearing something rush at her as she tried to silence the much larger beast. "L'ani" her mother's voice rang in her ears and she turned looking around for her, Just as her legs got the strength to stand she felt an intense pain and fell forwards-

Kalani shot up in bed, feeling a heavy weight settle on her legs, "Leah?" She muttered rubbing her eyes. The older girl nodded in the moonlight, moving to get under the thick floral blankets as Kalani held them open.

Leah Clearwater was one of the most beautiful women Kalani had ever seen, she was the embodiment of native beauty. her long black hair glided like water and her skin was a deep tan that rivaled with the sun.

She laid her head on Kalani's chest, listening to her strong heartbeat "Do you think he'll ever come back" her voice cracked through the silence, a few tears leaving her onyx eyes. "Do you think he still loves me?"

Kalani knew her friend was still struggling with her boyfriend, Sam Uley leaving her for her cousin, Emily, summer had been hard for the both of them but somehow it felt like Leah was just now getting the worse of it.

She ran her fingers through the thick, silky strands of Leah's hair, rubbing her scalp in an attempt to calm her, "I think if he loved you at all Qahla, he wouldn't have left"

She took a deep breath as her voice quivered "We were going to get married." Kalani nodded, "I know"

"We were supposed to have babies" Kalani rubbed her back up and down, "I know" she said.

"Your mom planned it all so beautifully" she sobbed into the girl's chest, Kalani felt her throat get dry and swallowed back her own sob, "I know" she whispered.

They laid there for who knows how long, Kalani rubbing her head while Leah's eyes stared off at the wall behind with tears streaming down her cheeks like a little river of diamonds. She watched her friend sadly, hoping to find any hint of the old Leah she knew beneath the broken exterior. If there was even a small piece of her in there, she could handle that, she could help fix this.

"I don't wanna see them together." Leah said her voice sounding stronger, "I hate her so much"
Kalani nodded, "then I'll keep them away from you, I'll fight Sam with a stick and a rock if I have to"

Leah gave a slight nod then sighed, "please, please be gay, I don't want anyone to hurt you like this" she muttered into the girl's chest, "I'm sorry for waking you up"

"It's okay Le, I wasn't sleeping well anyways" she smiled, "and if I have to be gay will you take my lesbian virginity?" She wiggled her brows earning a giggled from her best friend.

Kalani felt a pressure in her chest fade as the moonlight caressed the smile on Leah's face, it may have been small but at least she made her feel a little bit better, She really hated Sam for putting Leah through this and really didn't like that he lived so close to them, but as she promised she'd do anything to keep him and Emily away from her best friend.

・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・

By the time Leah finally snuck back out of her window the sun was up and Kalani hadn't slept much since, the Native girl looked into the mirror trying to figure how to tame her wild hair for the first day of school.

Her deep hazel eyes were crusty from lack of sleep and the curly hair bunched into a nest made her cringe slightly but she went to work trying to fix it in the shower.
