Side Note (In case it's not obvious): Thesis is Tommy. Theo is Tubbo.
It was a warm, sunny day, but it was dreadful for a pair of two close teens that those in the city dubbed Clingy Duo because of the fact they never seemed to separate or leave each other's side. Unfortunately, that wasn't always the case, currently, the two were saying goodbye for Spring Break since the shorter yet older of the two, Theodore, who went by Theo, had to visit his grandparents as it had been a while, but it was a long trip and he wouldn't be back until school started up again. Now, they were outside of Theo's house saying their temporary farewells.
Thesis broke apart from Theo's embrace, "Do you promise you will be okay and that something like last time won't happen?"
Theo nodded, though he wasn't so sure. The last time Theo had left town with his family, there was a crash. They weren't involved in it but his mom got distracted and accidentally swerved off the road, nearly becoming a part of it. Neither of them wanted that to happen again, they especially didn't want anything worse to happen this time around. Theo's mom was a raging alcoholic and it was dangerous to have her behind the wheel, but his dad wasn't a much better bargain considering he was constantly tired from working two jobs to make up for what his wife was doing with her life. Either way, the options were dangerous, and that was the main reason why Theo hadn't been wanting to go, that and his grandparents on the side they were visiting were the ones who let his mother get that bad in the first place. He understood the fact they didn't exactly tell her, "Here's some alcohol, get out of our sight! " but they also didn't pay her much attention, and that's how she got a hold of it. They didn't care what she did.
"I promise you Thesis, I'll prevent something bad from happening to the best of my ability but I can't promise something like that won't happen again because we both know how things are."
Thesis did know. He knew about the alcoholism, and the hours Theo's dad had to put in, he knew all of it, including the many times Theo wished he was dead so he wouldn't have to deal with any of it anymore. Luckily, Thesis had always been able to keep Theo from doing it but he was always more anxious when for Theo when he was gone because he knew that he wouldn't be able to run to his house and submerge Theo in the biggest bear hug he had ever been in. There was a reason the entire school called the two Clingy Duo. It was because they never left the other side to be able to help each other out when the other needed it. The school doesn't know that part or about the situation with Theo's household. The teachers did, they just didn't care. They were the unpopular kids, and Theo had poor grades so they figured he wouldn't make it in life, well, that wasn't the only reason that Theo was seen as a failure among teachers. They were in high school, and he formed perfectly coherent sentences when speaking but when writing it always looked sloppy, they just deemed him lazy. It didn't help when Theo was forced to read something out loud to the class one day and he kept stuttering, the teacher thought it was on purpose and sent him to detention. Fun fact: It wasn't. He was trying his hardest. Unfortunately, great people tend to have shitty situations.
Thesis smiled at the pitiful reassurance, it wasn't much but it was Theo's attempt at their last meeting for the week not to be so miserable without exactly making the promise because in truth, that wasn't something Theo could guarantee and Thesis knew that, "Alright. I love you, Theo, in a brotherly manner of course."
"I love you two Thesis, in the same way." Theo embraced Thesis one more time before his father called out for him, telling Theo that it was time to go and asking if he was ready. Theo yelled back he was ready, then let go of Thesis, "Bye, Thesis."
"Goodbye Leo, I'll see you when you return."
Theo left, he hopped into the back seat of the old red car that his parents had owned, probably since before he was born, and the engine coughed to life. As the old car left, Theo waved goodbye, and Thesis waved back to him, until his best friend since he was two years old left for, what he thought would be the week.
