"Why don't you grab a beer for yourself," Connor asked.
"Just because I work and co-own a bar doesn't mean I drink. Now, what is it that you needed to speak to me about," Equin asked.
Connor sighed before speaking up. "I know you are wondering why I was at Mayor Robinson's office earlier today. I was there, because he wanted me to sign a peace treaty."
"There is no way in hell you signed the peace treaty without getting something in return. That is the way you work. So, what did you get out of the signing of the peace treaty," Equin asked.
"I get a purebred mate to give me some pups," Connor said.
"I know you're not talking about mating Gail. She hates you. Oh my god...leave Angelina out of this. She is too young and too pure for you to be corrupting. If you so much as think about laying a hand on my sister Angelina, I will-" Equin began to rant.
"I never said anything about mating Angelina or Gail, did I? Besides, I don't want Gail or Angelina. In return for signing the peace treaty, you have been chosen as my new mate. When the time comes, we will have a lovely ceremony to celebrate us becoming one," Connor explained.
"What," Equin asked in shock at what she just heard.
"Don't act shocked dear. You heard me right. You and I will become mates in exchange for the peace of the town," Connor said.
"How could Mayor Robinson do this to me? How could he go and agree to such a thing, without even asking me if I wanted to go through with it," Equin asked.
"He's selfish and would sacrifice any purebred female wolf he has on hand who isn't mated, just so he can protect the rest of the people who live in this town. Do you honestly think he gives a damn about the purebred wolves that are dying out? No. All he cares about are the humans and the half breeds which are a disgrace to our kind," Connor explained.
"Excuse me a moment," Equin said before walking away. "Gail, you and Angelina hold down the fort. I'm taking my break now."
"Are you alright," Gail asked.
"I will be when I get some much-needed answers," Equin said before leaving the bar. Equin wasted no time making her way to the mayor's office, where she spotted Mayor Robinson sitting at his desk.
"Equin, what brings you here," Mayor Robinson asked sensing that the young woman was not happy with him.
"Don't act so damn surprised to see me, Robinson. You know damn well why I am here," Equin snapped.
"Look Equin, I know you're upset. But I had no other choice. Connor would not have signed it, if I didn't give him a purebred mate. I told him that he could have one and your name is the one that he spoke. I didn't expect him to even say he wanted you as a mate." Mayor Robinson said.
"Did you think to try and persuade him from taking me as his mate? I'm sure there are other purebred female wolves here in town that he could have picked. Why didn't you tell him to leave my sisters and I out of it," Equin asked.
"Look Equin, if I don't give him what he wants he won't leave us to live in peace. Many more lives will be taken by his and his group's hands. I don't want that. I'm trying the best I can to meet a happy medium for all of us," Mayor Robinson said.
"You're not trying hard enough. You went and made a choice without even thinking about speaking to me about it. You know how I found out about your little agreement for the peace treaty that Connor signed? I found out from Connor himself when he came to my bar and told me exactly what you had given him in return. Did it not occur to you that maybe I get say in this as well," Equin asked.
