Ari was a young opera singer, living on a farm with his husband Sriv. Unbeknownst to Sriv, Ari had been having an affair for years, since before they'd even married.
"Honey, I'm home!" Ari hollered, walking to the kitchen. Sriv was standing over the stove, finishing the preparation for dinner.
"Your shift finished two hours ago, hun," Sriv spoke, not turning his head away from the stove. "Where have you been?"
"I've been taking a few extra hours lately, I already told you that"
"You've been taking extra hours for two months and haven't been getting any extra pay, what have you been spending your money on?" Shrivs voice cracked, with a sorrowful sound.
"I've been going to the bar with the guys," Ari lied. "You know this already."The night flew by, they enjoyed a nice dinner before climbing into bed and re-watching their favorite show, lalaloopsy , for the thousandth time.
"I'm off to work now, honey," Ari said, forking the last bite of his omelette into his mouth. "My boss will kill me if I'm late again. Love you Honeybun."
"I love you too, pumpkin." Ari put on his shoes and left to the office."We're out of eggs," Sriv spoke to himself. "and milk, I'll run to the shop."
Sriv had a shower and got dressed, before throwing on his shoes and grabbing the keys to his 2034 Ford skyrocket, the newest model. When he arrived at the shops, he walked towards the refrigerated area. Opening the fridge to grab the milk he looked over and noticed a severe lack of eggs. "Oh darn it, are they really out of eggs."
"Nope," a voice behind him spoke, smooth and warm. "Just a little slow on restock today."Sriv turned to see who this hypnotizing voice belonged to, a young man who looked oddly familiar. "Do I know you from somewhere?"
"I'm Armaan," The man said, smirking. "We went to high school together. We also uhm. Dated for a bit."
"Armaan!" Sriv exclaimed. "I haven't seen you in forever!"The two talked for hours, walking through the store while Armaan restocked shelves.
"Hey, uhm, my shift ends in 30 minutes if you wanna go out for coffee or something."
"That sounds great, but I should probably be heading home soon, I have groceries to put away." Sriv said, rubbing the back of his neck. "If you want I could give you my address and you could drive over once you finish."
"It's a date."Driving down the narrow dirt road, Sriv caught himself thinking about high school, back when he and Armaan were together, back when he got kisses daily and would cuddle under the large willow tree behind their school. "No, no, I'm married, I can't be thinking about my ex from high school." Sriv spoke to himself, almost scared of his own thoughts. "But.. He called it a date.."
Around 25 minutes after he got home, Sriv heard a knock on the door. Armaan. Getting up to answer in, he smiled to his chest, kind of hoping they could rekindle the love they used to have.
"Armaan, you're here!"
"Of course I'm here, I couldn't stop myself from coming to see your cute face." Armaan smirked. The two of them walked to the couch, Sriv stopping on the way to grab a spliff and a light. They talked for another hour, Armaans hand landing on Srivs thigh somewhere in the mess of time.
"Sriv, do you remember the old willow, how we used to sit under it for hours."
"Yeah, I could never forget such good times."
"This almost reminds me of that."
Sriv smiled, leaning into him. No words were spoken in these moments, just the sound of the wind blowing and Armaans breath, deep and meaningful. Sriv looked at him, a gleam in his eyes saying he was yearning for more. Neither of them heard the sound of the tires rolling up the driveway, as their lips met and the door opened."Sriv? .........."
"I-I can explain honey" Sriv spurt, jumping off the couch, standing shocked and scared in complete silence.
"Ari?" Armaans voice rang from what seemed like another world.
"How did you meet him!?" Ari's voice came out in a burst of emotion, sending tars flying off his face.
"Baby, it's not what it seems I-I promise."
"You're cheating on me with my fucking boyfriend!!"
The words split the air, a spike hitting Sriv right where it hurts.
"boyfriend..?"
Ari's words finally reached his head. Leaving him wishing he had never spoke, never even come home to this."I knew it." Sriv's voice cracked, just as it had the night before. "You've been cheating on me."
"No, baby I-"
"FOR HOW LONG"
"No, I-"
"HOW. LONG. ARI."The room ran silent, still, for a long couple seconds. Where just a faint crackle of thunder in the background as raindrops trickle onto the roof.
"12 years." Armaan mumbled, breaking the silent storm.
"12 years, Ari?" Srivs voice spat. "TWELVE GOD DAMN YEARS!" "Honey, I-"
"DON'T EVEN TRY! TWELVE YEARS, ARI. TWELVE. WE'VE ONLY BEEN TOGETHER FOR THIRTEEN NEXT MONTHS!"
"Baby, I didn't mean to hurt you."
"THAT'S ENOUGH!"
"But, baby, we could all live here together, running the farm."
"NO! GET OUT OF MY GODDAMN HOUSE! WE'RE GETTING DIVORCED."Ari's heart broke, then and there. He ran out, into the now pouring rain, sobbing.
Ari ran for what felt like hours, because it was. He ran through the entirety of town and then 3 over. By the time he stopped, the rain was gone, and he collapsed on his knees in a puddle, balling his eyes out. Before standing up, and without saying a word, stood up and walked into the forest. Stopping at the edge on a 4 story ledge and taking the last step, opera singing the lalaloopsy theme song.
The news shattered Srivs heart, sending him toppling to the floor in tears. "It's okay, Sriv, I'm here for you," Armaan said rubbing his back while pulling him into a hug on the floor. "From now and forever." They sat, holding each other and crying together, before kissing and popping a couple edibles to lighten the mood.
