"Is it over?" Itadori's voice sounded wet.
There was no color in his already alarmingly pale face, with the exception of the purple-hued bruises below his eyes and crimson along his mouth.
Sukuna looked as the sorcerer imploded to his knees-spent and shaking- not making a sound. A sharp blade's edge flickered red in the fiery morning light where it left his back. A last salute to the fight's bloody, magnificent end.
The King of Curses advanced towards the now young adult until he lingered over the bowed structure.
"It's over," Sukuna declared in a soft tone, "yes."
"And did- did I-" Itadori murmured through blood-drenched breaths, "hurt- you?" His breaths now sounded stressed, more shallow.
Kneeling, Sukuna zeroed in on Itadori's hands, opening up his grasped hold with firm fingers. With one quick jerk, the cutting edge slid free.
There was a stream of blood followed by an excruciating gasp- the only sound to be heard as the sorcerer dropped forward. The Curse caught the boy before he hit the ground.
The light in Itadori's eyes glimmered and then darkened. For a small amount of a second, the two gazed at one another, Sorcerer and King of Curses, opposites, main adversaries, destined rivals- saying with their eyes what they never could with their lips.
Itadori hiccuped and then afterward twice. Sukuna didn't dare move, not even as their kneecaps grew damp from the blood pooling below them.
And afterward, there was no light in his eyes. No life.
"Indeed." The King said after a while. "You hurt me," he murmured, shutting the young man's eyes and looking at the sun rising on the horizon. He stood for a second, gazing at the lifeless corpse before him. "More than you will ever know..." A single tear ran down his cheek as he understood he had executed the one person that he cared about and realized he was once again alone as he silently cried.
