Yassen Gregorovich (Michael) was quietly sitting on the veranda outside the hotel. The sun was rising and the birds had begun their morning song. All was peaceful. Snap! A twig broke a few meters away, sending a plume of birds into the sky and a man emerged from behind a clump of trees; his hand raised in greeting. Yassen stood, returning the wave and heading toward the man in a casual yet urgent manner.

"Cossack." An eyebrow lifted.

"Fox." Yassen replied, slight venom tinting his voice. They held each others stare for a few moments before Yassen reached into his pocket to withdraw the packet of Winfield cigarettes. He took one for himself and handed another to Fox. A lighter shushed them both as Fox flicked the wheel to generate a spark. He held the flame over the tip of his cigarette then reached out for Yassen's.

"Here, let me light that ."

"Thanks." he grunted in reply, fumbling slightly as he retrieved his now glowing cigarette. The two stood there in silence for a few minutes, watching as the river trickled past. Fox took a deep breath of smoke, breathing it out slowly and watching it curl into the air. Somewhere a frog croaked. Yassen's cigarette was untouched, and it was slowly getting smaller, dripping ash onto the ground. Finally he broke the silence.

"Well, thanks for bringing it. I'll be seeing you around then," his voice was formal and business like as he turned and held his hand out for the other man to take.

"Yeah. Perhaps we'll see each other again in Italy next month," Fox took Yassen's outstretched hand and shook it stiffly. Yassen watched him coldly as he walked away, into the trees, visibly relaxing as he got further away. He shook his head to dispel any thoughts he had at that moment then looked at the small item he now had in his hand.

AN///////

Well that was a short chapter. I don't really like to upload massive chunks of story at once because they can sometimes get confusing to write. I dunno if that's just me or not. Hmmm...
