I was a failure.

Lisa, the only daughter of the Manoban family, was the one who saved my life and raised me, even though I should have been thrown away.

It was at Chun-jae Mubon's laboratory that Lisa and I met.

I am a 'something like a human being' created by Mubon's hand.

If you search for Mubon's name on the Internet, you can gather a lot of information. Speaking of Mubon's pronouns, it would be "kidnapper", "mass murderer", and "bizarre murderer."

The case in which Mubon kidnapped, confined, and killed many women was widely reported as the 'Mubon case'.

But that's only one side of the case. The essence of what happened is not there. It seems that the media was restricted because the content was too inhumane and shocking.

I think that I, who is said to be the sole survivor of the Mubon case, is probably the only one who knows the full story.

According to research, Mubon was a genius scientist and biologist. However, because of his genius, he was not understood by those around him and seemed to be out of place.

What Mubon devoted himself to in his research alone was 'to create a human being that surpasses humankind.'

Mubon kidnapped and confined a large number of women because they were the tools necessary for the experiment.

I don't know everything about how many women he kidnapped and killed over how many years.

Lisa Manoban was one of those kidnapped women.

Manoban's parents took me in as a survivor of the Mubon Case and poured their affection into me without letting me out of the house, was because I'm the replacement for their only daughter who lost her life. So that's why they gave me the same name as their only daughter.

Even so, they never once asked me what happened at Mubon's laboratory. Rather than thinking about my feelings, I think it was because they didn't want to accept the real daughter's unfortunate circumstances as a reality.

Officially, I am said to be the only survivor of the Mubon Case. But that is wrong. Mubon was trying to create a perfect chimera as a human being surpassing humanity. Among them, what he was most passionate about was creating humans with fish abilities.

As a child, I didn't understand the meaning of the words, but I remember Mubon saying excitedly, "Human beings who can freely roam the oceans that make up most of the earth are the best beings!"

I am an individual born in Mubon's experiments. But I was just a human. In other words, it was a failure.

The genome-manipulated fertilized egg is grown into a living organism using the kidnapped woman's body and culture fluid. I was born while many individuals stopped growing in the process.

Mubon was overjoyed at the fact that I had a life as an individual, but as soon as he learned that I didn't have the ability of a fish, he lost interest and left it alone.

That kind of me was picked up by Lisa Manoban.

"Even if it's not awakened now, isn't there a possibility that the ability will awaken during the growth process?"

Lisa Manoban persuaded Mubon with those words. Many of the lives created in laboratories were lost before or shortly after birth.

The women who were kidnapped lost their lives due to Mubon's forcible experiments, and some went mad and took their own lives.

As far as I know, Lisa Manoban is the only woman who survived five years at Mubon's laboratory.

Around the time I was old enough to walk on my own, I was forced to clean Mubon's laboratory and do other chores.

I didn't feel anything about disposing of what was supposed to be a living things. It's because it's been a daily life in front of me since I was born. However, Lisa Manoban was always crying and holding back her nausea. I felt a little sad to see her like that.

Lisa Manoban cried while she was cleaning up the unborn life when Mubon's experiment failed. And when Mubon's experiment succeeded and life was about to be born, Lisa Manoban also cried. At times like that, Lisa Manoban always hugs me and strokes my head over and over again.

If the experiment goes well, Mubon will be in a good mood. I get less yelled at and beaten. So, I couldn't understand why Lisa Manoban was crying.

When I was about five years old, Mubon's laughter echoed in the laboratory.

"Finally, finally success!!"

I shuddered at an earth-shattering roar.

The individual that Mubon was holding was in the shape of a human. But the hands and feet are webbed and shaped like fins. And the body was covered in shimmering, delicate scales.

Without hesitation, Mubon throws the crying newborn into the tank.

I can't hear the crying voices due to being blocked by the water. But the individual seemed to be struggling to swim in the water. The individual that had been left in the tank for ten minutes was still breathing properly although it was a little limp when it was pulled out of the tank.

That night, Lisa Manoban hugged me and said,

"I'm sorry. I can't take it anymore."

After that day, I never saw Lisa Manoban again.
