I'm dead.

That's what I thought as I slowly sank to the bottom of the sea. However, I am standing at the seabed as if nothing had happened. I don't really understand how I can breathe underwater, but apparently, Mubon's experiment wasn't a complete failure.

I looked around while puzzled by the abilities that I learned for the first time after living for nearly 30 years. With this ability, I can also search for Lulu.

When I was thinking about whether I should walk around here and look for Lulu, a large black shadow fell. Its shadow slowly circles over my head.

When I looked up, I saw a woman swimming with her black hair flowing down to her haunch. The body is no different from a human. She has a small head with two arms and two plump breasts. Then, with her two supple legs aligned, it slowly paddled the water and swam as if dancing.

However, her arms, legs, and back are covered with scales that reflect faint light. And her limbs were webbed and shaped like fish fins. It was definitely the mermaid I was looking for.

The mermaid looked at me from afar, and when our eyes met, she smiled innocently. And after spinning around on the spot several times, she slowly swooped down in front of me.

"Lulu?"

I ask the mermaid. But I gritted my back teeth when I realized that my voice makes no sound in the sea.

The mermaid tilted her head slightly to look at me and smiled again. Then, she quickly brings her face to me and makes a gesture as if she sniffs my smell.

"Lili"

I felt I heard a voice like that. It's my nostalgic name that no one calls me anymore. I don't know why I can hear voices in the ocean. It may not be the voice. But it's true that the mermaid... Lulu called my name.

When I reached out my hand and gently touched Lulu's cheek, Lulu pulled back and spun around several times like a somersault before approaching me again and bringing her cheek closer to me.

"Lulu, do you understand what I'm saying?"

I asked Lulu with a voice that doesn't make a sound. Lulu didn't answer my question and said "Lili?" and tilted her head.

"That's right, it's Lili."

When I answered, Lulu, with a wide smile on her face, flew straight up and drew a circle three times, four times above my head. I can tell that she is happy with it.

When they separated, I thought that Lulu, who was still young, might not remember me. However, Lulu seems to have memories of her childhood, just like I do.

But Lulu was all alone in this sea. So she probably doesn't understand a lot of words. Even if she remembers it as a sound, I can understand the sense that it is not linked to the meaning of the words.

Apparently, she was satisfied after swimming for a while, Lulu approached me again and took my hand. She seems to be inviting me to go somewhere.

It might be a good idea to continue living with Lulu at the bottom of the sea. She thought so, but she found it impossible when she took the first step.

I don't have fins. I can't swim freely in this sea like Lulu. I am a failure who can only walk on the seabed. With me, Lulu, who can swim freely, will have a hard time.

"Lulu, I'm sorry. I can't go with you."

Even though I said that, Lulu just tilted her head and pulled my hand.

I stop Lulu and show her both my hands.

"Look. I can't swim like Lulu."

Then Lulu stares at her own hand, and then she takes my hand and stares at mine. She then looked at my feet.

I take off my shoes and show my failed legs. It seems that she finally understood that I can't swim by looking at and touching my feet side by side. And she looked at me with a face that was about to cry. Her hands touch my cheeks and rub my cheeks.

I wrapped my arms around Lulu's back and stroked her head many times. I can't live in the sea like Lulu. In that case, I have no choice but to take Lulu to the land.

Lulu also lived on the land for several years after she was born, so there shouldn't be any problems with her life. Even so, Lulu, who has lived in the sea all her life, will be forced into many inconveniences.

Even if it's my ego and selfishness to take Lulu to land, I don't want to live apart from Lulu when I finally meet her again.

I stared at Lulu's face. Lulu looks much younger than her actual age.

It looks like pure beauty, but it also looks like the sadness of not being able to interact with anyone.

"Lulu, let's go to the above of the sea together."

Lulu still tilted her head. It seems that she doesn't understand the meaning of my words.

"Lulu, I will promise to protect you. So let's go to the above of the sea together."

I speak slowly with gestures.

Lulu made a gesture of thinking for a moment, and she pointed in one direction.

"Is that the direction of the land?"

Lulu smiled and pulled my hand.

I frantically follow Lulu as she slowly swims. It was hard to walk because of the shape of the seafloor, so she jumped awkwardly and splashed water. Her wet clothes made it difficult to move, but when I showed my swim a little, Lulu clapped her hands in joy.
