Flower Crowns
The second floor bathroom is known to be one of the most haunted parts of the building. Some people say there is a monster in the bathroom mirror who will grant you a wish if you have good intentions. Others say if you have bad intentions, he'll drag you into the mirror, trapping you in 'the other side,' forever. Personally this sounds like a stupid myth. Mirror monsters who grant wishes don't exist. But you never know until you see one.
Pushing open the door to the second floor bathroom, the place was, as expected, empty. Quirking my eyebrow, I shut the door behind me. The room looked like any other bathroom, just...more dusty.
People really are avoiding this place it seems. Even the janitors.
I thought to myself as I wiped a thin layer of dust off the wall's lightswitch. The fluorescent lights flicked on, making a soft but annoying hum-buzz sound.
"Creepy." I muttered.
I began to inspect the mirrors, looking for anything that shouldn't belong. Such a thing being the supposed mirror monster I came here for. After a few minutes of staring down and overanalyzing the first two mirrors' reflections, and ultimately finding nothing indifferent about them, I moved onto the last mirror. Dusting the mirror off, I took a step back.I better not be wasting my time.
I stared at the mirror just like the last two times, and I immediately sensed something was off. In my reflection, my surroundings weren't dust filled and the fluorescent lights seemed to emit light as bright as the sun.
"Whoa." I whispered to myself.
I felt myself being drawn to the mirror, and the annoying hum-buzz sound that filled my ears turned into a hypnotic beat. Everything felt warm. I didn't have to worry about anything anymore. As long as I was here, I would be safe. Suddenly the sound of ringing drowned out the hum-buzz's hypnotic rhythm.
Huh? What's going on?
I blinked a few times, taking a step back and looking around at my surroundings. I was still in the second floor bathroom, everything was still dusty, and the brightness from the fluorescent lights were still dull.
Questions swarmed my brain. Was all that just an act? Was that sense of warmth and security just a strategy to lure me in?
I looked back into the mirror. The reflection didn't show a clean bathroom or give off the feeling that everything was gonna be okay. Instead, the mirror showed an unkept bathroom with crushed hopes and dreams.
My phone pinged, then pinged again. I took my phone out of my pocket and the screen lit up.
3:32 PM 1 missed call
3:37 PM 2 unread texts from Hayden <3I opened the unread messages and shot a text back.
Hayden <3: Hey Dory!! You didn't answer my call.
Hayden <3: You're probably busy so call me when you get home okay?
Dory: Yeah, I'm still at school. I'll definitely call you later.
I slid my phone back into my pocket, and looked up at the mirror. What the honk just happened?
"Hello?" I called out to nobody in particular.
I cringe at myself. Why did I do that? That's something a character in a horror movie would say. Nonetheless I shuffled closer to the mirror, waiting for a response.
"I know you're there mirror monster." I paused for a moment, waiting for something, anything, to reply back.
"Come on, I don't bite." Again, no response. I gripped the mirror tightly, my patience wearing thin.
