David couldn't shake the feeling that something was different about him since the incident on the quad. At first, he tried to brush it off as a fluke. Maybe he had just had a good day, he reasoned. But as the days went by and his abilities only seemed to grow stronger, David knew that something was up.
He confided in his best friend Marcus, who listened with a mix of fascination and disbelief.
"You're saying you can do what now?" Marcus asked incredulously.
David sighed, feeling frustrated. "I don't know how to explain it. It's like... I can see the world in a different way. It's hard to describe."
Marcus was silent for a moment, deep in thought. "Okay, let's say I believe you. What do you think it means?"
David hesitated, unsure of what to say. "I don't know. Maybe I'm just... I don't know. Gifted, or something."
Marcus raised an eyebrow. "Gifted? You mean like a superhero?"
David rolled his eyes. "No, not like a superhero. Just... I don't know. Like, maybe I've always had this potential, and I'm only just realizing it now."
Marcus nodded thoughtfully. "Okay, I can see that. But what are you going to do about it?"
David shrugged. "I don't know. I mean, what can I do? It's not like I can just start telling people that I have superpowers or something."
Marcus grinned. "I mean, you could. That would be pretty cool."
David rolled his eyes again, but he couldn't help but feel a little grateful for Marcus's support. He had always been the kind of person who approached life with a sense of humor, and sometimes that was exactly what David needed.
As the days went by, David continued to experiment with his newfound abilities. He found that he could manipulate time and space in ways that he had never thought possible. He could freeze time for a few precious seconds, giving himself a chance to assess his surroundings and make a plan of attack. He could teleport himself to different locations, appearing and disappearing almost instantaneously.
But as thrilling as his new powers were, David knew that he had to be careful. The more he experimented, the more he realized that there were limits to what he could do. He had a feeling that his powers were linked to some kind of energy source, and that using them too much could be dangerous.
One afternoon, David was sitting in his room, lost in thought, when there was a knock on his door.
"Come in," he called, not bothering to get up.
To his surprise, it was Rachel standing in the doorway.
"Hey," she said, smiling. "Can I come in?"
David hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. "Sure, I guess."
Rachel entered the room and took a seat on David's bed, looking around curiously.
"So, what's up?" David asked, feeling uneasy.
Rachel shrugged. "Nothing, really. I just wanted to come see you. We haven't hung out since that day on the quad."
David couldn't help but feel suspicious. "Yeah, I've been pretty busy."
Rachel nodded. "I know. I heard about your midterm grades. Congratulations, by the way."
David raised an eyebrow, surprised. "How did you hear about that?"
Rachel smiled enigmatically. "I have my ways. But seriously, you're doing really well. I'm impressed."
David felt a surge of pride at her words, but he couldn't help but feel like there was something more to her visit.
