When Lan Zhan opens his eyes, there is a blanket covering him.
And a stranger who leaps out of the way when Bichen just misses his throat.
"Woah! Wait a minute, Young Master!" The stranger looks up.
Oh.
He is devastatingly beautiful. He has diamond crystals for eyes, and a cute button nose, pink lips that are achingly pretty.
Lan Zhan wants to bite them…
"Who are you?" Lan Zhan demands, hope unfurling in his chest, that this might be-
"Oh, no-one important. My master sent me to guide you, and to make sure you keep your promise." The stranger bows hastily, eyeing his sword. "My name is Wei Ying. At your service."
"I am a Lan. Of course I mean to keep my word." Lan Zhan thinks it insulting for this person to be so lighthearted about vows and promises.
"Well, you know that, and of course, now I know that, but you can hardly blame my Master for doubting it. He does not know you. Yet." The last word is hastily tacked on while still staring at the now covered Bichen. "What's your name?"
That was a reasonable assumption, Lan Zhan thought, and reeled in his disbelief that someone would think so lowly of him.
"My name is Lan Zhan." Lan Zhan does not think about why he gave his birth name to this person, who is not even the person he has promised himself to. He is just the servant of the Kitsune.
A memory resurfaces, an image of the Kitsune, just before he woke up.
Lan Zhan remembers too late what the Great Fox Spirit told him.
"I will send my manservant with you. Go with him, back to your home. See the proof of our promises come to fruition, say your goodbyes, and return before the sun sets tonight."
"Are you well rested, Sir?" Wei Ying is hovering around anxiously, staring at him owlishly. He sniffs in the air and says, "what about breakfast?"
"These are offerings for the Deity." Lan Zhan is offended that the servant is hungry, and is thinking of eating what Lan Zhan intends to leave for the Kitsune Spirit. But the more he looks into the wondrous eyes of this person, he finds his heart melting into a puddle.
Yes, he had brought offerings, but what good would they do rotting on the steps of the pedestal upon which the Fox Spirit stood? A hungry person was right here, and it seemed like the best thing to do, to offer the food to him instead.
Lan Zhan brings out the spicy chicken, and hands it to him.
The young man crows with delight and the food is practically inhaled in his hurry to quench his hunger.
"But Gege, what will you eat?" Wei Ying peers into his qiankun pouch eagerly, pulling out the sweet apple. "What about these?"
"They are offerings for the Deity." Lan Zhan reminds him again, gently.
These, he wants to definitely offer, as the old PoPo had said the Fox Spirit enjoyed these the most.
"Oh really?" Wei Ying looks most interested in that. "Then you may eat them. My Master gives me everything people offer to him. You're good to eat them, Gege." He is equally gentle in his persuasion, and Lan Zhan takes two apples from the brown paper, leaving the rest there.
"It's Lan Zhan." He grits his teeth, unsure if he's upset or happy about the overfamiliarity about what Wei Ying keeps calling him. Silently, he pushes an apple into Wei Ying's hand, and eats one himself.
Wei Ying is shocked but happily accepts the gift.
The apples are extremely sweet, and Lan Zhan is very happy to find that out. He gathers up the wild flowers that must have fallen out of his hands last night, when the fog caused his unnatural slumber.
