After what seemed like an eternity of chaos, the noise downstairs subsided. I cautiously picked myself up from the floor and hurried upstairs. My heart pounded in my chest as I reached the top, only to find that my sister Liv and her companion were gone, leaving behind a motionless Regan.
"Regan, wake up! Come on, wake up, damn it!" I shouted, shaking her shoulders desperately.
"Keep shaking me, and I will kill you, Parker," she groaned, slowly regaining consciousness.
"What the hell happened?" I demanded, my voice tense with concern.
"After Liv managed to use magic against me while Tyler and I were fighting," she explained, her words clipped with frustration.
"Let's go back to the apartment for the day and deal with this tomorrow," I suggested, trying to keep a level head amidst the chaos.
"Alright, let's go," she agreed, pushing herself upright with a grimace.
**- Back at the Apartment (Regan's POV) -**
"Kai, I'm going to take a quick shower!" I called out to him from the hallway leading to the bathroom.
"Okay, I'm going to start on dinner, princess," Kai's voice echoed back from the living room.I stepped into the shower, letting the hot water wash away the adrenaline and grime of the day. Thoughts swirled in my mind—of being back in town, of Katherine, of the unfinished business that always seemed to haunt us.
After about thirty minutes, feeling refreshed, I turned off the water and wrapped myself in a towel.
"Dinner is ready, princess!" Kai's voice called again, this time from the kitchen.
"Okay!" I replied, grabbing a fresh set of clothes and quickly getting dressed.
The routine of everyday life, even amidst the turmoil, provided a brief respite from the storm brewing just outside our door.
