Godamnit. God fucking damnit. This was the last place Kyle wanted to be. In the woods, past the village and searching like a lunatic. Maybe if Kyle had simply punched Cartman in the face he wouldn't be in this situation right now.
Although, if he had punched him, he'd have to deal with Cartman's crew. And going up against three people- Totally unfair by the way, was not ideal. Not to mention they're all stuck up hunters who never miss a chance to shove it in anyone's face.
And of course because they're hunters they get away with it. That's how it's always been.
Kyle remembers the night when he told his father of Cartman's harassment.
"Let it pass." His father said, waving a dismissive hand. "Hunters have an important role, Kyle. I know that better than anyone else. It's a lot of pressure being a hunter. Sometimes you just do something to blow off steam. Don't take it personally, bud."
Kyle regretted ever telling his father. In fact, he'd later go on to regret telling his father a lot of stuff. A lot of personal stuff. He remembers telling his father about a crush he had. Heidi Turner. She's still in the village, of course. Noone really leaves unless they're hunters.
The very next night, Kyle overheard his dad- His very drunk dad, very openly telling his friends that'd been over for their guys night about Kyle's "crush on Heidi". It was the most horrified and embarrassed Kyle had ever been.
He remembers staring at his dad like he'd just murdered his entire family and the blood was splattered across the walls. He'd been thrown under the bus because his dad wanted something funny to share with his friends. Well, Kyle didn't think it was funny. Not one bit.
Inevitably, those friends talked. And the friends of those friends talked and so on. Until eventually the whole village knew of Kyle's crush on Heidi. Including Heidi, who'd awkwardly smile and back away anytime they made eye contact.
Kyle didn't talk to his dad for a week after that.He walked past trees, bushes, flowers, sleeping birds and yet still, he couldn't find it.
He was trying to be thorough with his search and look real hard. But that's difficult when the only thing providing light is a worn out, old lantern. Oh, and also because you can't stay in one place too long or you might die.
At least that's what he'd heard. There were many rumors about these woods. About what lurks in them. About how going in them was a death wish. If you weren't killed, you were lost. And those who got lost had no choice but to go around and around until you realise there's no way out and commit suicide.
But Kyle's trying not to think about that as he searches for his fathers special blade. Surely that's all they are. Rumors. Stories made up so that kids don't go running into the forest and hurting themselves on the sharp rocks or tall trees. Nothing more.
Kyle blames Cartman for this mess, and he's right to do so, he knows he is. To hell with him blowing off steam! This is bullshit.
Kyle wonders How his father will react when he realises that Cartman sling shot his prized possession into the woods. He's afraid he already knows the answer to that. His father will tell him Cartman was just playing around or something like that and he'll tell Kyle off.
He doesn't want his father telling him off for something that wasn't his fault or because he lost his special blade.
The blade. As much as Kyle likes to think of it as junk, it is actually a big deal. To his father and to the village. He knows that.
