The plane ride to California was almost the death of me, being that my sister, Amina, was seated beside me. As annoying and dramatic as she is you would have expected the flight attendants to have escorted her off of the plane before we had even taken off. My mother, Adara, and My older brother, Mateo, were seated in rows behind us. Everyone had seemed to be excited about this big move. I could have cared less, I think. The only thing I'd miss is my beloved room. My personal and private island of serenity. My room shielded me from all of the "Bliss" around me.

We were greeted at the airport by My Soon-to-be step-father, Martin. He waited for us in his Family- ready Trailblazer. I reminisced about my old room and tried to picture how my new one would be until we actually got to the new house.

I would've liked to be able to describe the community when we arrived. I liked it even better that there was no community to describe. It was a nice two story house, far out on a hill. Martin had explained to us, about the land his parents had left him. It included a lake and campgrounds.

" There's also a trail out that way to take the horses or just to walk down at any time. Its quite nice " My mom added, obviously having been to his home more than a few times.
We all smiled at how happy she was. My mother took it upon herself to decorate our rooms because she felt like she "knew us more than we thought". Mateo and Amina were in love with there rooms. I, on the other hand, had a strongly detailed opinion of this room. My mother didnt know me at all. I partially blamed myself for this but i knew of three other reason's why i was least on her list. I was grateful anyway and hugged her and Martin, both.
We spent the rest of the evening and the weekend unpacking our belongings and acting like such a family. We all knew that we moved right on time for the newschool year. On Monday everyone predicted that everything would be distant again, so my mom embraced this moment. I couldnt wait to let go.

On Monday, Amina would walk into school and have the HBIC jealous. Have the mean girls on attack and ignore me as if she never met me. Back in North Carolina, she owned. She was the Southern "Belle". The dancer that everyone cherished. The sweetheart and Beauty. Everyone loves themselves a beautiful 5'5 mixed girl. Hair that curled up with the slightest bit of moisture. Nice dark lips on a bright, smooth skintone. Deep dimples were one of the only features that we share besides the rounder Almond shape of our eyes.
Mateo was the party and pride of the Family. Skin and a head full of hair that matched Amina's at the height of exactly 6 ft. The body of an amateur personal trainer in my eyes, but females seemed to love it Due to his urban fashion sense. He was genuine but let alot of compliments get to his head. He excelled in almost every sport that he had attempted to play except for basketball. Basketball is the one sport that he actually dreamed to play but he sucks at it. He was the star pitcher for our highschool, varsity since his sophmore year. There is no telling how big his name will get here.
Mateo tries his best to include me in his parties and "popularity" while Amina just pretends i dont exist as did the rest of our old school.
As I thought about how life was back in North Carolina, I expected for monday to be the beginning of the same.

My mother was a beautiful brown woman, who my siblings resembled strongly. I always felt like the oddball in this family but by the sixth grade I learned not to care. I enjoy us as a family but when we split, I let my dreadlocks down and slip my band tee's and Glasses on, then move on with my life and smile.

I thought about my family and our differences as i went to sleep that Sunday night. Silently praying that no one spoke to me for the beginning of my junior year.
