Chapter 5: Unraveled

When Jay awoke he found himself in Andrea's old room back at the Mendoza household but there was a problem; the room looked the way it did when he first met her and he distinctly remembers the house burnt down. His concentration was broken by the door bursting open and his wife rushing in, only she was younger again. She ran up to him and said "Please tell me you remember the last 7 years of our life" and he said, "Yes, we have our own house, and a daughter...Victoria". Tears trickled down his face and he realized the last time he saw his daughter, she was angry at him. Andrea sighed and said, "Pull it together and let's call the gods". 

Over the course of the next 40 minutes, they tried and failed to reach the gods but they did notice their memories of the future were fading". Andrea sighed and said "I can't time travel and I can no longer see atoms". Jay sighed and said "maybe we should tell the family so at least if our memories are gone, they can maybe help. Andrea shook her head and said, "That's a waste of time...we should go find Aula, remember she's an undercover god, he won't find her too easily". Jay nodded and said "Let's go then as they headed out the door and into Andrea's old car. 

They drove until they reached Aula's fortune teller tent and quickly rushed inside preparing to explain everything. Before either of them could speak, Aula said "I know why you're here, I also know that you two are not of this time". Aula sighed and said, "Do you remember the first battle with Agathor when he time-traveled?". they both nodded and Aula said, "after he killed Andrea, he must've known he was gonna die, so he copied himself by tapping into future Victoria's powers and using a bit of it". 

Andrea looked at her and said "My daughter?" and Aula said, "Yes, in the future somewhere, Victoria has already become evil and he used that to split himself at least once where he lay in hiding until now...basically it's a predestination paradox". It was inevitable from the moment Victoria was born that Agathor would seek her, turn her evil, and use her as a weapon to destroy time". Andrea fell to her knees in tears saying "Please no, not my baby, there's gotta be something we can do". 

Aula sighed and said "At this moment in time, we cannot, we must leave it up to her and Carlos, "jay said "what's so special about Victoria? and Aula said "I cannot say anything further at this moment except trust me and your daughter". Aula said, "the stars are gone, you'll lose your remaining powers as well as your memories soon so just relax and spend time with each other and I will find you again when its time".

Andrea nodded and said" I will trust you, you guys have never been wrong" and turned and walked out of the tent". The drive home was awkward but Jay knew his wife didn't have the strength to speak and that nothing would fill the void in her heart. When they got home, they just sat there in her room in utter disbelief. Jay breaks the silence and says "Even if we do forget and have to start all over, I promise you I'll find a way to make things right and to give you everything we lost and I promise, even if I have to die, that I'll protect our daughters future". 

Andrea hugged him and said "Remember what I told you all those years ago...you give my life meaning and without you it's pointless, so if you're going on a suicide run then I'm going with you and well die side by side as husband and wife". Andrea hugged him tighter and said, "as long as I'm with you, everything's gonna be ok". After that, she burst into tears which lasted for quite a while. Jay wanted to cry to but he knew he had to be strong for her and with that, he used his powers to knock his wife out. He laid her on the bed with tears in his eyes before he linked with her and removed her memories of the last 8 years of their marriage and of their first adventures.

When she awoke again, she smiled at Jay and said "What a beautiful sight to wake up to...for a minute I thought us meeting was some weird dream". Jay hugged her and said "Me too but we're together now and we can overcome anything, including this whole saving the world prophecy junk". Andrea giggled and said, "Ooh bold words Mr. Macho man...if you keep this up". Jay fake smiled and excused himself from the room before going out onto the balcony and staring at the remaining stars that were now becoming visible as the sun set. 

Andrea popped up behind him, held his hand, and said "These sure are beautiful and jay choked up for a minute before gaining his composure back and saying" They sure are and I hope we can keep them that way". Jay looked off into the sky with hope, that his daughter is out there somewhere, fighting to make all this right.
