Mia sat nervously in the living room, waiting for Jackson to come down. It had been a week since her mom had announced their engagement, and Jackson had officially become her stepbrother. Mia was still struggling to adjust to the idea of having a new family member, but she was determined to make it work.
As Jackson walked into the room, Mia gave him a small smile. "Hey," she said.
"Hey," Jackson replied, sitting down next to her. "So, how's it going?"
Mia shrugged. "It's okay, I guess. It's just weird having a new family member all of a sudden."
"I know what you mean," Jackson said, nodding. "But we're family now, so we have to make it work."
Mia smiled at his words. It was comforting to know that Jackson felt the same way she did. "Yeah, you're right. We should probably get to know each other better, now that we're siblings."
Jackson grinned. "I was thinking the same thing. How about we go out and do something fun?"
Mia raised an eyebrow. "What did you have in mind?"
"How about we go to the arcade?" Jackson suggested. "We can play some games, get to know each other better, and maybe even have a little sibling rivalry."
Mia laughed. "Okay, you're on. Let's go."
They drove to the arcade in Jackson's car, chatting along the way. Mia couldn't believe how easy it was to talk to Jackson. They had only known each other for a short time, but it felt like they had been siblings for years.
At the arcade, they played all sorts of games, from skee-ball to racing games. Mia was surprised to find out that Jackson was actually really good at some of them. They even ended up having a little competition to see who could get the highest score on the basketball game.
As they played, Mia realized how lucky she was to have Jackson as her stepbrother. He was kind, funny, and easy to talk to. She couldn't have asked for a better sibling.
After a few hours at the arcade, they headed back to the car. Mia was feeling tired but happy. "Thanks for suggesting we come here," she said to Jackson.
"No problem," Jackson replied. "I had a great time. We should do this again sometime."
Mia smiled. "Definitely. I'm glad we're siblings, Jackson."
"Me too, Mia," Jackson said, grinning. "I think we're going to make a great team."
Mia couldn't help but agree. As they drove back home, she felt a newfound sense of acceptance and belonging. Having Jackson as her stepbrother wasn't going to be so bad after all.
