Henley's pov

The butterflies in the pit of my stomach have been flying in hyper drive for over an hour now. Was I really going to do this? Better yet, should I really be doing this?

Maybe my big brother's suggestion was better than Amber's. Sure, I'd look like a loser having him force somebody to speak with me, but sitting outside his house would probably make me look like an even bigger loser.

That's the problem right there. Both options made me look bad, so which one was the lesser of two evils? All I know for sure is that I'm not just gonna let him walk away from me. Whether anyone knew this or not, we have been dating for just under a year now.

I had only told my mother about us a couple of months ago, but was too scared to tell my father and brother. Lets just say they're a bit overprotective, and I didn't want Dean getting the third degree from them.

There's also the fact that I wanted to wait until I knew for sure if Dean was the one before I did the introductions. I admit, Micah's birthday might not have been the best place to introduce the two of them, but I hoped he wouldn't cause to big of a scene with all the people around.

Dean handled it like the champ he was, not even complaining when Micah tried to crush his hand. I'm lucky his feelings for me outweighed his discomfort that night.

It was our wolves who formed a bond first. From the moment I got my wolf, Ayah, we would go for a run first thing in the morning. It's her favorite time of day. The air is crisp, the sun just starting to rise, and the leaves make a crunching sound under her paws, which causes her to howl in delight.

One morning, as she was running full speed through our packs woods, a beautiful brown wolf came out of nowhere, gave her a playful nip in the ass, then chased us for the better part of an hour. From the second he jumped out behind us, she was thrilled to play this game of chase. You would think having another wolf come charging at you without warning would cause one to panic or get defensive.

Not Ayah. She welcomed his presence from the very start. This game of theirs went on for a few months before we learned who the other person was. It would have happened faster had it not have been the summer, and we were in school.

On my first day of grade eleven, when I entered the hallways of our school, his scent was lingering there, beckoning me to come find him. Unfortunately, I had a class to get to and didn't have time to play hide and seek.

It wasn't until lunchtime that we found each other. And by we, I mean him. I was standing at my locker, putting my books away. When his moonflower scent got so strong, I knew he was right behind me. I admit, I was nervous as hell to turn around and see who my morning run partner was after all this time.

I'm not sure what I expected when I turned around, but Dean standing there, looking like he had seen a ghost, was not it. Myself, I was pleasantly surprised. Dean was in grade 12, his final year, and I'd be lying if I said I'd never checked him out a time or two over the years.

His hair was a deep chestnut brown, with red highlights that only the sun can reveal. His eyes were a golden brown, framed by thick lashes, and even thicker brows. If all this wasn't enough, he also had one of those perfect smiles that you only see in dental commercials. Teeth straight as an arrow, white and sparkly.

At eighteen years old, he already stood well over six feet tall and had a lean athletic build. He was a male you could easily spot coming down the hallway, both from his towering height and friendly smile he always wore.
