The large toy hauler creaks as friends Jennifer,Kayden,Candice and Sam climb up the black metal stairs. The four friends,all in school still,wanted a break from the every day stresses so they decided to take a trip to one of their favourite camping destinations,the small town of Merritt BC. Kayden the oldest of the group, at 18 drove them in his new black pickup truck. All four teens are old family friends who have bonded throughout the years,and even though they are all very different they stick together like glue. Candice the youngest is a beautiful blonde girl who makes guys fawn and girls jealous because of her good grades and down to earth attitude. Even with her perfect persona Candice has never dated,she doesn't let herself get close to anyone because of a betrayal in her youth. Jennifer is the only person to brake through her protective barriers and they've been best friends ever since. Jennifer is a very tall brunette.She's logical but tends to over think things( she's also very stubborn!). Unlike Candice she has dated before but nothing to serious and because of that she believes everything happens for a reason and never lets it get to her.
Sam is the seemingly cold and distant one of the group but doesn't really let it show with his friends, A past breakup caused him to swear off of ever dating. Even with his past tragedy Sam is the type of person who is worried about others well being more than his own and would sacrifice himself for others.
The frat boy Kayden is the type of guy ever girl has a crush on. Sporty handsome and a charming smile that makes girls melt if it is aimed towards them. Not to say Kayden is dumb but he has his moments,but don't we all?
"Swimming was awesome" Candice exclaims as she flops down on the small light brown couch beside Sam whose messy dark brown hair is dripping with water. Kayden shakes his dirty blonde quiff which causes water to hit Jennifer. She glares at him while he does his famous smirk,the two have a strange friendship they argue and bicker constantly but besides all the fighting they always end up close after its over. "After lunch I am going back out to tan" Jennifer states as she rings water out of her straight long chocolaty brown hair with her fingers,she is an outdoor person Jennifer hikes swims bikes and camps often and she can relax for hours under the sun. After lunch Jennifer wears a cute black bikini with matching flip flops and goes by the river wear she sets up a lounge chair and pulls out a book before sitting down. As she listens to one of her favourite songs Jennifer closes her eyes and mouths along with the lyrics while her friends are in the RV talking.
"We should go tent camping tonight" Kayden suggests ,"Where can we do that we will look like morons if we sleep in a tent beside a trailer" Sam says looking around. "There is a lake a couple miles back,there has to be a small island somewhere on it,we could camp there" Candice responds hopefully and both boys turn to her , "that's a good idea,Im in" Sam says ruffling candice's hair playfully. Candice growls playfully back at Sam. " ya we can canoe there" Kayden adds. "ok,you start packing I will get Jennifer" Candice explains as she runs out of the trailer giggling before either boy can argue.She walks over to Jennifer and imforms her about there plans,shortly after they are all heading over to the lake. The drive I'd uneventful accept for a few random exchanges of words while driving. Once they reach the lake the boys rent a conoe while the girls load all the supplies into the conoe in backpacks,then all together they put the canoe on the shore and hop in. "Which direction" Sam asks as he and Kayden start paddling,"Go around the lake staying just off shore" Candice says while she traces around the lake with her finger in the air. Jennifer notices what looks to be a small sand made island in the distance that's pushed out in front of a forest,after awhile of silent paddling, "There!" She exclaims pointing at it. Both of the boys start to paddle faster and more recklessly in a haste to reach their new campsite,water off the paddles flies off and hits the two girls who squeal in surprise at the cold water. In retaliation Candice and Jennifer collect water in their hands and drop it on the two boys which blows up into a water fight. The four teens don't notice how much they are rocking the boat until it is to late, the boat tips sending the teens plummeting into the deep cold lake. Jennifer is the first to surface but she instantly goes under again to try to obtain the supplies. The other three surface laughing not realizing that their supplies are slowly sinking, it finally clicks for Candice when Jennifer surfaces coughing and spluttering. "our phones are down there!" Candice exclaims and both boys fall silent,"get on the boat we will paddle back" Jennifer says angrily as she climbs onto the over turned object, it sinks slightly so the teens decide that Sam and Candice will hold onto the canoe and paddle from the water. Kayden and Jennifer straddle the canoe so they can paddle easier, Kaydens strong so he slices through the water easily and together they set a slow pace moving the canoe threw the water. What feels like hours, for the four exhausted teens, they reach where the truck should be but theirs a problem, the trucks not there and it's too dark to try to walk through the forest in search of it. "What do we do,we are going to freeze" Candice says as she looks at her drenched clothes, "we have to try to find the truck,we have no tent or shelter" Kayden states and the others nod reluctantly. Kayden follows Sam as they head to the right where the bushes are, the girls on the other hand have the idea that the left,that is clear, is the direction they should head. "Where are you going,the truck is this way" Sam says as he turns to look at the girls, "we didn't park the truck in trees, it was in a clearing" Jennifer says rolling her eyes. " I'm the one who parked the truck, it's this way" Kayden says signalling to the direction Sam and him were heading, "can we please go this way" Candice pleads and she does a puppy dog face towards the boys, Sam knows he's done for, but Kayden won't give up so easily. He goes to object but Jennifer interrupts him, "Kayden you got us into this mess, we are cold,tired and sore, so stop pouting and follow us" Jennifer says as she sassily puts her hand on her hip and glares at Kayden. "Meow" Kayden says mockingly but obeys and follows the two females, Kayden can't help but notice Jennifer's hips sway more confidently than usual. "We rock" Candice says to Jennifer as she grins, "totally" Jennifer agrees chuckling. The teens walk further until they stumble upon a old rickety, abandoned cabin. The couple windows that are on the walls are cracked and broken and the door swings with the wind because of its broken hinges. "We should rest here tonight, they're is no use trying to find the truck it's too dark out" Sam says, "I don't think that's a good idea, it's creepy looking" Candice says as she migrates to behind Sam gripping his arm and he instantly tenses leaving Jennifer Standing at the cabins door alone. "Candice I know it's not the best but we have no other option, it's go in or freeze, my clothes aren't drying anytime soon" Jennifer says as she opens the door fully and walks out of view as she enters a room. The cabin is made up of a large room and to the left is a small cream coloured door where Jennifer went after she dropped the backpack on one of the two couches. "What do we do" Candice asks nervously as she looks around the room, the walls are covered with holes so there is a cold draft coming in from outside. "We sleep and tomorrow we go back to the trailer" Sam says as he digs through the backpack to locate any supplies that could come in handy,he comes out with nothing but soggy matches and four bottles of water."Ill see if I can find any blankets or towels" Kayden says as he starts to search around the room,he doesn't realize he is about to open the door to the room Jennifer is in until he sees her back towards him squishing water out of her shirt witch is raised slightly over her midsection. He stops in his tracks frozen but then quietly and carefully leaves before she notices. "She could have been showing more than that you tool,the girl that drives you insane and you just barge in" Kayden scolds himself in his mind. Kayden finds two moth eaten blankets and decides that they will have to do as he grabs and takes them to his friends."two people a blanket" Sam says as he looks at the holey quilts,"me and Sam can not share a blanket" Kayden exclaims and Sam nods in agreement ,"I don't need a blanket" Jennifer says as she lays on one of the couches. "Jen" Candice whines at her friends stubbornness," candi it's fine" Jennifer says hoping to end the conversation, she's mad that there stuck at this cabin when they could be at the warm trailer with there phones and supplies ,"if one of the boys had been more careful" she thinks but she really knows it was really Candice and her faults for the canoe tipping. She feels guilty! Sam and Candice decided to share a blanket so they go to the couch,sam trying to calm Candice because she is creeped out by the situation. So Kayden sits beside a slightly shivering Jennifer. The teens lay quietly for awhile trying to fall asleep before a loud crashing sound is heard outside the door. All the teens are wondering the same question. 'what is outside that Broken wood door?'
